A big federal win at midnight today. The bigger concern is there are 15 States where *technically* new suppressor purchases are now illegal. These aren't the liberal states either, they are the moderate/red States that legislated this sentiment "if you are serialized, a form 4 completed, and BATF approved, we need nothing more from you".

Wisconsin is one of those States. North Dakota was another of those States I remember and they only meet as a legislature once very two years meaning it will take quite awhile to correct this predicament.
 
If anyone had what I’ve been shopping for in stock (Lyman rekkr 30 cal can) in stock I’d buy it today…

I may just buy something anyway if for no other reason, celebration lol

Shouldn't a Texan like yourself just go on Temu and spend $20 each, quantity ten for solvent traps? At present you can then throw them in mill or lathe and bore your preferred hole through them to your preference?

Check with an attorney, but I think as of this morning you can make your own suppressors in Texas. If that proves correct, the chicom solvent traps are just a suppressor without a hole in the muzzle and they are super, super cheap.
 
Absolutely shocked to see the Peoples Republic of Maryland is on the list of 27.

This morning at midnight, the first two guinea pigs stepped forward. A letter was sent by the CEO of silencer central to several elements of government advising them that the BATF did not file a rebuttal within 7 days of the judge's order and therefore they are taking action. The two buyers co-signed the same letter informing them they are buying the suppressors at midnight without BATF approval or a Form 4.

The attorneys were savvy that they selected three perfect people for this transaction. The seller was a named plantiff and a member of the GOA class in the lawsuit. The buyers were customers of the named plaintiff and also members of the GOA class. They had double standing to give them as many defenses as possible if the BATF gets sue-happy.

My challenge there is cost… the aluminum solvent traps are crazy cheap (as they should be)… but they won’t stand up to centerfire rifle for long.. you can get titanium and steel traps.. but they’re $200+ depending on the vendor… where a Lyman rekkr is just $299…

I don’t need anything fancy.. I’ve already got a few cans… right now I’m just looking for a short, modular can that I can put on a hunting bolt action to knock a bit of the noise off (shooting inside the confines of a 6’x4’ metal blind is painful)…

I think you’re right though… now that they are off the NFA list and are just regular “firearms” people are allowed to self manufacture firearms for personal use without a license..
 
Will see what happens. My local guy (Texas) isn't budging until there is clarification on the Federal government's response to the stay and any attempted purchases. There could still be an Appellate stay.

I hear you… but… it’s already 930 on the east coast… I’m going to guess there will be 500-1000 guinea pigs by the end of the day.. silencershop will likely have very little left on the shelf by close of business… and then think of all the big retailers like Midwest gunworks that have used silencershop as their intermediary for sales… they’ll be sold out by the end of the day as well..

My guess is between removal of the $200 stamp and now removal of the wait, fingerprints, and all the form 4 crap… there’s going to be a run on suppressors that makes the COVID run on toilet paper look like a joke…

It is worth noting some additional research suggests, as @Red Leg and @mdwest alluded to, this is not fully official just yet. While some sellers and buyers will be able to jump on this immediately (and I just might if I find what I want) there is still most of the 60 Day appeal window that can put this on hold again.

And who know what other political grandstanding via courts and lawsuits may come up.

But for now, it's a start and a battle victory within the larger War.

To that point, I encourage you all to join GOA so in the unfortunate event you're being prosecuted "Bigly" you at least can claim you are part of the named party class subject to the suit.
 
It's obvious that the NFA of 1934 will eventually be gutted, but I don't think we're there yet. We all know the Democrats and activist leftist Judges will roadblock this any way they can, so I don't think the legal wrangling is over.

Realistically though, if tens of thousands of suppressors are sold without a tax stamp and without anything mandated by the GCA, it's going to become increasingly difficult to reverse this.

The Courts, especially SCOTUS, are very reluctant to reverse anything once there's been a certain amount of water under the bridge.
 
Not willing to deal with going down this road yet either. My goodness, it’s so easy now as it is, I think my last one was approved in 1-2 days. Heck it took me longer to find time to drive back to the shop to get it than it did to get approved. If they reverse it what would it take to get “legal” again?? Hopefully they just change to process completely and make it over the counter, and soon!

Not sure which one I would buy now anyway! I am pretty much covered!

I hope so

Demand improves supply which eventually improves price and availability.

I hope the flood overwhelms any incling to go back to the old restrictions
 

PSA is already on board.. selling on a 4457 only effective immediately..
 
What will be interesting is to see what a top, top of the line suppressor costs in a year. The reality is that no suppressor is worth $1000, the very best ever made was worth maybe $400 as a machined part. The bureaucracy, gun trusts, serialization, storage pending approvals, slow turn on inventory, expanded warehousing to hold pending transfers, BATF processing, that is where the remaining $600 in MSRP was coming from.

I predict the market caving in. When a guy can make 10,000 units and sell every one of them at a gunshow for a fist full of cash and zero paperwork, the prices will surely come down a lot.
 
The market was already trending that direction with several newer providers (like Lyman) jumping in with older, established tech thats easy to manufacture at reasonable prices (you can buy a lyman can for a rimfire for about $179.. and a centerfire can for less than $300).. with this new development it should open the US market to european and south african manufacturers.. NFA was what was keeping them out.. with new competition coming both domestically and internationally.. I think things are about the change dramatically..

to your point if I am a FFL I should be able to go to a gun show and sell a dozen a day... with that kind of volume I can afford to sell at minimal margins... especially since I dont have all the additional administrative crap to deal with anymore...
