When I had to have the left eye lens replaced after retina surgeries, our govt would not pay for premium lens. My eye surgeon simply told me he would not do it unless I bought the top quality lens. In particular he wanted the UV protection. The lens cost me $75 above what the govt paid for cheap lens. That's all! Boy, are you guys getting ripped off (as usual!). Nitrous oxide gas bubbles injected into that eye to help reattach retina had wrecked the lens. They would not replace the lens until three years after the third retina surgery because the surgeons were not confident they could save the eye. In fact, I was being counseled to accept eventual blindness in both eyes. I did not accept it.
By the time it was neçcessary to replace the lens in right eye due to natural cataract the govt was paying for premium lenses.
