I was guiding an aoudad youth hunt in East Texas. One of the other guides brought a sabatti 500 NE double to shoot after the kids were gone. I’ve never knew I needed a double!.
After 3 shots I’m hook!
Sorry, West Texas. It was in the Apache range, near the Guadalupe mountains. The hunt is part of the TYHP program.I didn’t know about aoudad in east Texas. Where? Guessing it’s high fenced. I just did an aoudad hunt in West Texas and it can certainly be habit forming.
How do you fire an odd-number of shots out of a DR? As double rifle newbie said - it's a slippery slope - I now have 3.
Same here!I got the wrong job for collecting doubles - government worker and not in politics
Was in a similar spot 20 years ago. Many double rifles have come and gone since. Always looking for the next one.I was guiding an aoudad youth hunt in East Texas. One of the other guides brought a sabatti 500 NE double to shoot after the kids were gone. I’ve never knew I needed a double!.

Yep......I'm with you on that! I'm looking hard for a double rifle myself. Before I make my decision though, I gotta shoot several calibers (404J, 416 Rigby, 458, 471N) to determine how well I can physically handle the recoils. I shoot sporting clays competitively and know that your stance, leveling the shoulders makes the recoil feel almost like nothing. I believe the same shooting form will minimize what ever recoil I experience from the rifles that will provide the final answer I need. I just hope they all don't feel good or I'm in deep sh*t! Worse yet, if I can't handle any of them, I' still buying one. Ain't that doing a "Forrest Gump"?
That's verrry encouraging! You should be able to handle any of them. I was able to put 3 rounds of a 500NE without any recoil issues. Now a 20 shot session may be different!
