FEMALE Specific hunting clothes and other gear

My wife's safari clothing is a bit of a miss mash of things. She LOVES her Dubarry boots, similar to those seen above in this thread and so eloquently modeled by @Tanks. She also loves her olive and brown Orvis bird hunting pants for safaris as they protect her legs very well from all the thorny bushes you invariably walk through. Her jackets and vest are from Barbour, Boyt Harness and Shoffel. For shirts she like the old style (100% cotton) Columbia fishing shirts. She also has some Sitka base and mid layers that she wears because they fit her well. She is an excellent bargain hunter and searches the internet and finds the more expansive stuff on sale.

So far this thread is mostly about clothing, but firearms are another specific need that ladies have. My gal Tina absolutely loves her Savage 11 Lady Hunter rifle. She looked for months trying to find a rifle that she liked, including the Weatherby Camilla, but fell in love with the Savage Lady Hunter the first time she handled one. We ordered hers from the Savage Custom shop in .257 Roberts and requested a barrel 2 inches longer than the standard Lady Hunter. It will shoot sub 1/2 inch groups with Barnes 100gr X bullets in handloads we made together.

So far she has taken Pronghorn, Springbuck, Duiker, Blesbuck and Steinbok with this rifle.

My wife had a Savage 111 Lady Hunter in 270WIN and used it with 150 grain Swift A-Frames to harvest a beautiful kudu with a one-shot DRT at 100 yards high neck shot. I was (and still am) so proud of her.

Badlands has ladies clothing on sale right now.

I’m going to keep following this thread for my girlfriend.
She’s more than a typical girlfriend however as I’m buying her a rifle and planning on taking her to Africa to hunt. Been down the aisle before and that one was arrested with a plan to commit homicide on my personage so I’m not sure I want to go down the aisle again.
Doesn’t mean I can’t fall in love and do everything short of marriage however. That includes shopping for clothes for her.

As a father of 4 daughters, I have heard the complaints about the lack of quality and correct fitting hunting clothes for years. I am not too familiar with it, but there is a brand called "SHE OUTDOORS." I believe Cabelas and Bass Pro carry the line (not exactly a great endorsement).

On a related topic, a few years ago I saw an article about a young lady petroleum engineer from LSU (I am an old petroleum engineer from LSU) that was not happy with the lack of nice styling, fire retardant wear for ladies in the oilfield. Interesting story:

I totally understand where you are coming from … I’m an old retired petroleum engineer. It wasn’t until the end of my career that the industry caught up and started making women’s fire retardant clothing. I always looked like a little kid in oversized clothes!

When I started hunting, women’s hunting gear was also nonexistent. After 9 African safaris and a bit of hunting in Romania, Ireland, England, Argentina and the USA, these are the brands that have served me well. Tag or Jonsson shirts, Bass Pro’s Natural brand cargo pants, insect shield undershirts and socks, Darn Tough socks, Keen hiking boots, and She Safari rain gear. No these are not the most expensive brands on the market, but they are comfortable and durable.

This is a fun thread. There are brands mentioned that I will certainly investigate.

Dudes clothes with a woman’s label? Or clothing made just for her? You want it made just for her! First choice is to pick the correct camo for your hunt.

Camo works, she literally disappears. Almost invisible

Really need my computer up and running as this would work really well with the couple in the bed meme.

HER: I bet he is thinking of other women.

HIM: My wife would look way more sexier in those first three camo patterns than those 3 models do.

Old thread. Just catching up. I just got curious. Thought I'd check to see what women discussed on AH.

Meant for after date night and those special times, like Valentine's Day attire.

Thanks for the information Gina. I don't really have anything to share right now. My clothing is basically a mismatch of stuff.
Sue, time to get into the original " Tag Safari Clothing" We manufacture in Zimbabwe and sell in the U.S. - 100% Cotton Light Weight comfortable clothing for Women - Breathable and natural

You'll even get a discount for being a member of AH

Here is a thread where we can share brands of clothing and gear that is specifically for ladies.

I thought it would also be good to share different ideas of what has worked for ladies hunting so we can have a resource here on AH.

I have personally had success with prana pants, nearly anything Sitka, and love my Crispi boots and my Courteney boots.

Sitka has a really cool Bino harness that is completely adjustable and I also use a Rick Young outdoors harness that is great!

I have a few tops from tag safari however, I have to get a men’s small to get good sleeve length.

Feel free to ask questions and post pics! We can gather a lot of useful information for our female hunting population here!

I have probably tried everything on the market and I am happy to answer any questions to help!

Happy Hunting (even if it is for hunting gear:) )

Gina
I love my 5.11 Spire pants! Bought 2 pair, one in ranger green, and one in Kangaroo, same as carhart tan. Wore them over 2 weeks in Sourh Africa. They were great. They are lightweight, but I run warm so they were excellent! Comfortable, had stretch, and more narrow pant leg than other styles of 5.11.

I have used “SHE” brand from Cabalas for deer hunting and it was adequate. Then I found KUIU and think the fit is better, better designed and feel, but it is a bit more expensive. I think it is worth it though! For the mountainous hikes in Romania to get Chamois, I used Crispi Women's Briksdal GTX Insulated Hunting Boots. They were awesome!

As far as equipment, I always use a women’s gun designed for women with a shorter trigger pull, shorter stock with a raised comb for our shorter necks.
I particularly like the Savage Lady Hunter 111 with its AccuTrigger and a walnut stock and it is very accurate. I have one from the Savage Customs shop in .257 Roberts which I use for most of my hunting on smaller game. I have one in .223 Remington and I just ordered my third from the custom shop in 30-06 for larger game. I had them add weight by choosing a longer and heavier barrel, a heavier action and heavier stock with a wider and longer forearm to help with recoil.
I also use a Ladies shotgun for hunting, and sporting clays. I love my Syren Elos D2 in 20 gauge and it fits me like a glove.

For all those wanting to get your wife or yourself a Savage Lady Hunter here is the scoop. I talked to Effie at the custom shop. They are taking it out of general production thus the “discontinued” on the website. However, you can still special order it in any caliber. I suggested that she amend the website to say “special order only” rather than discontinued. She liked that and is going to talk to marketing. That way people know they can still get it. I am hoping if enough people keep ordering they will bring it back!

Here is the good news from Savage! Since I received my Lady Hunter from the custom shop earlier this month two other people from this forum have put in special orders for Lady Hunter guns.
Keep ordering your Savage Lady Hunter from the custom shop. If enough of them are ordered Savage may bring them back. My goal!
Effie notified me today that there are plenty of right handed short and long action Lady Hunters available but out for now of long action left handed actions.

I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.

Still possible to order one of these?

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
