Well, I didnt see it till I saw it lol. My CZ chambered in 505 Gibbs has not one but two cracks working through it. It’s saddening especially as I’m in the process of making sure it’s up to the task for an elephant hunt this year. So I’m scrambling.
Who is KNOWN for the best hardwood stocks for these beasts of calibers and would go far above and beyond the usuall for glass bedding and maybe even rod reinforcement ?

One thing I have learned so far for these safari guns is it’s, money anything….

I see the crack starting at the top of bolt handle trough and spreading to wrist. This is surprising. The crossbolt just ahead of it and action screw behind it should have provided ample support both ways, laterally and vertically. Where's the second crack?

It turns into hair lines, looks like the stock is about to explode

I would buy a new stock, as you will always have doubt about your stock, even if repaired.

Typically a boyd in laminated or genuine wood: Boyd cz 550 safari magnum and do a proper bedding.

or a Synthetic: Bell and Carlson CZ 550 safari stock also with bedding

I have 2 Bell & carlson stocks on my 375HH and 338 Lapua and a wood on my 458 Lott.

Yeah, not to be dramatic but that looks like it's about to let go. It can probably be repaired but you'll always have doubts and a 505 is not a calibre for dodgy stock. That stock needed to be properly bedded and braced before the cracks set in.
Rather put the repair money towards a new stock

Yup have the B&C synthetic on my 500 jeff and 416 rigby....prefer it to the wood one that the 500 had....416 came with it...they fit me perfectly....if time is short what I would go for.... mmm would get one regardless...

Yeah, I would pronounce that stock dead, and find a replacement. To be suddenly holding the front jagged half of a DG rifle in the middle of an elephant hunt would be an epic disaster. Good catch, noticing that.

Yikes. I might try welding it together with more bedding and add an extra internal crossbolt plus steel wrist rod ... if it was a 30-06. No way for that monster caliber. It's done. You likely will have trouble getting a replacement wood stock in time.

Go with a Bell & Carlson great product for the money & devcon bed it.

In this picture it looks like the action was glass bedded and the tang of the action did not have the proper relief ie, the rear of action is tight against bedding and stock. Not sure if that is actually the case, but appears to be from this picture. Just bringing this up as it could be the reason your stock is cracking and it is important to not have it happen again.

My 458 Lott did similar, no matter what you try it will be in back of your mind..
Replaced with Bell and Carlson, had them add recoil reducer and build to my LOP, took maybe two weeks to get, glass bedded myself, after talking to Wayne at AHR how and what to do.
I would go Bell and Carlson and never worry about it again.

Yep, it looks like the tang was properly rebated at factory and then someone filled it in with bedding! Bubba strikes again. People don't understand these thumper guns are supposed to have a gap at the end of the tang. They think it's a sloppy fit and fill it in.

I’m genuinely not being snarky. Has the rifle ever been fired from a lead sled? The answer might be useful to others in the community.

aren’t all they have for the safari rifles are composite stocks correct? Seems pretty light if so, I genuinely like the wood, basically I have 3 months to get it sorted out…

Always has been shoulder fired or shoulder fired off sticks. I don’t even own one of those untrustworthy contraptions lol
But good question indeed
Only about 25 rounds too….. didn’t take long

What about the weight you loose from a wood stocks… put lead in it? This one is already at the tipping point of “desired” felt recoil lol

I had a 505 that probably shot around 100 heavy loads from a lead sled without issues (570gr and 600gr bullets at 2100-2300fps). I also shot 40 or so rounds from my friends 505 on the same sled (525gr bullets at around 2300fps). In the end, the sled fell apart :ROFLMAO:.

Only way i could see a sled being an issue is if it was bolted down.

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.
