This "liberation" was an outcome of US involvement but the US in both war remained a neutral up until Hitler declare war on the US 7 days after Pearl Harbour in ww2. In ww1 the US had financial interest in europe and was to lose a lot of money if Germany won. A historian would not nessesary see this as because US had a good heart or a return help to the french for a favor done 160 years earlier. This is very simplified but you americans like things "simplified"...right?..:LOLI think we did. Well beyond in fact when we liberated France from the Germans. Twice.
