The only votes Haley ever gets are from the libtard democrats who vote in Republican primaries.

Well, from a small sample size we know that's not true: many on this site who are registered Republicans - myself included - supported (and would still support) Haley, as we saw her as the best chance to achieve something positive.

Let's say you are partially correct - which is entirely possible - and some Democrats did vote Haley at the primaries. That should be concerning because those folks will be voting Biden (or whomever is D) in November. So either one is a problem for Trump: actual Haley voters who won't vote Trump or Biden/D voters who voted Republican to make a point who will vote D in November.

I still think that one of the most likely scenarios is Biden/whomever the D is wins, and the Trump loyalists scream "foul" when the truth will be that his own arrogance in alienating some Republicans and Independents will be to blame. I also continue to hope that some alternative possibility will present itself at the last moment - a 9th inning walk off or a Hail Mary in the last minute. (for what it's worth - and I am NOT a Dodgers fan - I thought Gibson's walk off against the As was one of the greatest moments in sports history, and a part of why I believe miracles at the end of it all can happen.) ;)

Gosh, I guess I’m a libtard Democrat then. Funny, I’ve never voted for a democrat in my life, but there ya go!

And it is comments like this from Trump sycophants towards anyone that does not kneel at the Trump altar is why Trump will not be getting the majority of voters that have voted for someone else at primaries.

Usually, once someone is the presumptive nominee, they shift towards the middle trying to unify the party in order to win in the General Election. Trump and his supporters seem to want to drive even a greater wedge between themselves and anyone else that did not vote for him in the primaries.

Most of the time the Trump psychophants merely demonstrate their proudly held ignorance. But, just occasionally they go full blown stupid. Donald Trump needs every single Republican vote. Right now, he has around 80% depending on the poll. He also needs a meaningful wedge of the independent vote. Somehow, not surprisingly, he and his loyal 30% seemed determined to alienate as many of those critical groups as possible.

Don’t know if sports are taxed ……. I am not sure where to begin. Assuming your stadium comment indicates you are talking about professional sports, depending upon the ownership model, the state and federal government have hooks into that income stream through numerous avenues.

Stadiums go up through all sorts of mechanisms, and cities and counties often compete desperately for them. The Ranger's and Cowboy Stadium in the DFW area offer two common examples.

I picked those two because they are here in Texas and the financing structure is readily available.

Ranger stadium was built with 600 million in private financing and 135 million in public financing. It has been paid back by a 10% charge on tickets, $3 charge on parking, and $11 million annually in naming rights. Not exactly something where the public was forced to pay anything unless they attend a game. These are considered "user taxes." The 135 million was paid off ten years early.

Cowboy stadium was far more complicated and far larger. It was a combination of financing by the city of Arlington to the tune of $635 million through half cent sales tax and and 2 and 5 percent fees on motel/hotel rooms and car rentals respectively. The other half of the $1.2 billion dollar project was privately financed. So, the 1/2 cent sales tax in Arlington is the only true public financing and was approved by the citizens of Arlington in a bond proposal. Travelers can choose their hotel or car rental location.

In this model, the city actually "owns" the stadium and Jerry Jones "rents" it for 2 million a year. Thus far, that city investment has proven a wise one with direct stadium income exceeding debt service by a large margin. Of course, that does not count the windfall in sales and property tax income that has bloomed as a result of enormous area business growth thanks to the projects.

Not sure where the corrupt politicians fit in, but yes the fans are happy.

Here's why sports are an evil public scam. Reason does a great job bringing this up often:

I would highly suggest to get out of your echo chamber, look around and listen to some life long republicans.
You might be surprised.

Not an evil public scam in Arlington Texas. Both stadiums have been a windfall to both the city and Tarrant County.

I will agree that some cities have not done the math and have not negotiated particularly smart deals. Washington DC comes to mind with Nationals field, though they did get to eradicate the worst slum in the city and pass that problem to Maryland. What I reject is the "had that money been used elsewhere" argument. How many of the sort of bond issues to let's say, address the homeless, would get traction however much CNBC might whine. Shared public/private financing models seem to be the most profitable.

I agree that the Olympics are another matter entirely.

By the way, the Dallas mayor has announced that the city looks forward to the potential return of the Texans (KC Chiefs) following the failure of the recent bond proposal Kansas City.

One other thing. Corporations pay through the nose for those boxes - at least at Commanders Field.

What I reject is the notion that the monies allocated for the stadium should have somehow gone to the disadvantaged. Sports stadiums are generally a distribution of wealth scheme for the local populace. You've noted a handful of exceptions to the rule of thumb. Olympics on the other hand, the stupidity is larger and the casualties greater, no modern Olympics has been a net-benefit to any host.

I have no issue with private sports teams doing private transactions as a business. I have a problem paying for it.

Never. Going. To. Happen. Frankly? I feel attacked Joe. Thanks.

Talk to the good practical but miserly citizens of Kansas City.

I was referring to.two stadiums that I wss aware of. One in Washington.and one in California. The teams demanded new stadiums, but when it went up.for a vote by referendum vote, the voters said no. The teams said if they didn't get the new facilities that they demanded they would move the teams to another city. Politicians went ahead and financed the new stadiums. I'll let you draw your own conclusions about corrupt politicians.

Nikki Haley could have done more than just sweep the general election. She could have been an actually unifying president. I know many independents and Democrats, myself included, who would have voted for her. If that were to happen, it would be a hard for Democrats to find a candidate who could pull those voters back.

That is why she did not make it through the primaries. The MAGA crowd do not want a unifier but someone that says they will "burn it all down" without a realistic plan to build it back up.

In other news Karl Rove torches Trump on Jan. 6th. I agree with him 100% on this matter.

If Trump had accepted his loss gracefully, we would have had 2 GOP senators from Georgia, he would not have been impeached a second time, at least a couple of court cases against him would have been moot. Hundreds of people would have been out of jail and Trump probably would have won this coming November in a landslide.

Due to his weakness of character, we are in the mess we are in now. Trump is responsible for just about everything we accuse Biden of due to us losing the Senate.

He said:
Trump warmly refers to people who attempted to overturn the 2020 presidential election results as “hostages.”

“And what those people did when they violently attacked the Capitol, in order to stop a constitutionally mandated meeting of the Congress to accept the results of the Electoral College, is a stain on our history,” Rove said. “And every one of those sons a bitches who did that, we oughta find them, try them, and send them to jail.”

“And one of the critical mistakes made in this campaign is that Donald Trump has now said, ‘I’m going to pardon those people because they’re hostages.’ No, they’re not. They’re thugs. There were people—some of them had automatic weapons at a hotel in Virginia hoping to be able to be called up,” Rove continued, describing the ensuing chaos as the rioters ransacked Congress, hunted Nancy Pelosi, and chanted “kill them all.”

“And so, why Trump has done this is beyond me. If he had said, ‘You know what? I trust our jury system, I trust law enforcement, anybody who assaulted the Capitol oughta be’—I mean, he said it once or twice, but now he’s appearing in a video with people who assaulted police officers with an intent to take the Capitol by force.”

Which proves if nothing else, that the "maga crowd", vastly outnumbers the Haley crowd right?

Correct, hence why GOP will become a permanent minority party unable to govern. We are seeing examples of this in the House.

Exactly, congrats on the primary, good luck in the general election! You cannot win the general election with just the MAGA crowd. Alienate the rest and you lose, every time! Why is that so difficult to understand?

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
