I plan on attending the Dallas safari club convention next month. First time attending a show other than a DU banquet is there any pointers for a first time person and are the evening banquettes worth attending? $500 for two tickets for the Saturday banquet is it worth it or should I just focus on looking for my outfitters to book my next hunt with?

@D-Orcutt, Hope you will be able to join us on Friday for our annual AH Get Together Dinner In Dallas, see:

If it was me I would skip expensive banquet dinners but never miss our Awesome Friday night dinner but you have to register for it

I try to avoid rubber chicken when ever possible. I do go to my local chapter dinner.

I just sent payment for 2, I’ll be there

Make up your own mind, but I have no interest in the formal banquets. DSC and SCI are opportunities for us to catch up with friends across the globe. We'll have our own time with them at local restaurants over several good bottles of wine. Our exception is the AH get together.

I totally agree. Our evenings are small dinners with friends, other than the AH dinner. We’ll miss seeing y’all this year.

We did all of the various banquets the first few years we were active in DSC… but haven’t done one in several years at this point…

I’d consider the life members breakfast if I were inclined to do one again in the future… its always well done, and is a great place to catch up with other life members we don’t see often..

But other than that I don’t have a lot of interest anymore… I can bid on auctions I’m interested in online.. no need to be present… and would rather spend the banquets money on hunts and/or gear…

All that said, the AH dinner on Friday night remains a don’t miss event… it’s a great time every year… Definitely the best evening event of the week..

We sponsored a table for all the banquets for several years. Originally there were really good speakers, and the conservation message and deeds were first and foremost. Over the years it transitioned to focusing more on awards for the most, biggest, tiniest, rarest, etc. and we stopped attending. We do still enjoy the Life Member Breakfast.

Safe hunting

I hope you can meet up with us Friday night for the AH dinner. I will attend the Saturday night banquet dinner. Your ticket money goes to conservation so of course it is worth it. That said it is a dressy event and some guys just want to hang out and have a beer versus go to a fancy dinner. I find the banquets at DSC and more so at SCI to be very inspiring in many ways.
See you there!

If you have never been to a convention before remember to take a good pair of walking shoes. I will be at life member breakfast and the AH dinner

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
