Wanna see a 50 BMG blow up in a guy's face???

That is crazy! I bet the staff in the ER got a surprise. Nothing more scary that a penetrating neck wound.

Wow, makes one think. Fired lots of 50 BMG from ship side. Many boxes had real old date stamps?? Makes one wonder. I don't see guy as doing anything wrong, do see him as dam lucky and glad some training saved his life. Plus he had the fortitude to remember it, stay calm, stay conscious and stay alive. Good on him.

Great learning opportunity and wake up for us all.

I would say the guns you shot were probably better constructed than his and would have taken a bad round much better. Just speculating.

Absolutely true. There are trades people whos job was maintenance, cleaning, and even loading for us part time shooters. But who knows how the old Canadian 50's would have reacted with a super hot load. I am glad no one ever had the chance to find out.

How the heck did that not knock him out cold? Lucky to be alive.

A couple of commenters pointed out that when he closes the action at 3:18, you can see something metallic bounce off of the front of the table away from gun. Any guesses???

His luck. ?

It appears to come from the area of the bipod maybe. Tough to make out.

Mark Serbu posted a new video to his YTube channel today. Briefly discussed the incident. Said he's waiting on receiving the rifle and the rounds, and will do a full investigation into what happened.

Doesn't appear a lot of thought went into the what-if in the Serbu design.
I doubt a Barret would have injured the shooter as bad.

Scott is definitely blessed.

Serbu made a comment in response to a couple comments that I and someone else made on YT about the incident and those ears as he calls them shearing off. Paraphrasing his response here but, "those "tabs" take 15,000 psi of pressure to shear". I responded with, "yes but they did shear didn't they? Other than manufacturing costs, is there a reason why there isn't more material between the shooter and that cap?" I didn't receive a reply.

I'm a big believer in, just because you can doesn't mean you should.

I feel bad for the guy..... but..... this is why you don't buy discount 50 cal rifles. Serbu's are literally built like a revolver/lever where they have a external hammer. So as some of the other mentioned there is not much meat behind it. Two clips in the lower like a AR (but shoots 223 lol) that keep it closed. There is a good reason these cost roughly $1000 and most well built ones start at like $5000. Watching him load those bullets they all looked the exact same, I highly doubt he just got one random hot one in there. My bet is that rifle just failed.

Look at the picture below... On real 50 cals. That space does not exist, its full of steel. I am sure this design makes the rifle a lot lighter.... but not sure why the hell anyone cares about the weight of a 50cal. You sure as hell are not mountain hunting with it, and your sure as hell not run and gunning.
