Thoughts on Craig Boddington?

I've seen some of your posts in a couple of threads and my advice FWIW which probably isn't much, is to maybe just step back from the situation and observe. I'm fairly opinionated and sometimes need to tell myself to shut up. From what I've seen you tend to dig your own hole and give as good as you get in your own way. You have posted quite a bit for only being a member for a month.

There are a few people on this site like in every aspect of life that I don't care for but overall it's one of the best I've been on.

I hope that was more on the side of blunt than passive aggressive.
No problem and no offense taken. As for me posting quite a bit I’m really not sure why that would be a problem in anyway. Look, like you said I am a new member and because of that I like to ask as many questions as possible even if they are a bit stupid because I want to get as much information as possible. That’s just my personality unfortunately so I can understand how people would be annoyed. However, you’ve got to realize that we were all newbies at one point in our lives so for people to get grumpy (because that’s how some of the users acted even if they didn’t intend it) is a bit hypocritical but I guess that’s just how people evolve over time.

Again, I haven’t taken any offense to your comment so I’m sorry if it comes across as overly passionate and what not. This is just how I talk.

I always enjoy watching how passionate people get over a few names.

1. .458 Winchester
2. Mark Sullivan
3. Art Alpins
4. R8 Blaser
5. Courtney Boots
6. Peter Capstick has now been replaced with Craig Boddington

Everyone is welcome to add to this list.

Dear Lon,
I came to think of this question just when CB ghost has appeared to haunt the forum again.

In order to make endless threads, I have found following topics to be considered:
- Craig B.?
- Is Blaser R8 good rifle?
- Push feed rifles VS Controlled round feed rifles.

These subjects usually open pandora box on this forum, and endless discussions, as I have noted.:ROFLMAO:

Don't forget
V.C. versus Heym 89b
Peep versus open sights
or
T. Roosevelt versus W. Churchill
maybe
Oprah versus Ellen (Nah)!

Don't forget 45/70 as a DG caliber. I've seen some epic threads on the subject and even started one because a forum was getting boring.
Ok, since I'm bored, I'll bite. Never owned one, but have shot my buddy's 18.5" barreled Marlin using 325gr. Hornady LeverRevolution cartridges. Kicks like a mule, no thanks. I'll shoot my CZ .458 WM all day, everyday over that. I'm thinking it's the Marlin's stock design and being a lighter rifle? But, what bullet would one use for DG in the 45/70? And with this in mind and pulling it back within this thread, what would Craig Boddington use? Someone email him and find out. Ha! Ha! Ha!

WWCBD?

I think a handloaded hard cast or Garret Cartridges hard cast load would work well. They've been proven to work on at least 6 of the big 7. I think they have a 535 gr load around 1500 or 1600 fps.

But you're right. Practice would be murder. My 458wm is 8.5 lbs and that's as light as I would want to go.

I think it would work and I believe this is what CB would do.

Of course he might have a custom 10lb 45/70 built, hunt ever DG in Africa and get out of the bill with bankruptcy.

In all seriousness I would like to buy a new winchester in 45/90 and hunt Africa with it.
That would be cool! Get something longer than an 18” barrel though.

Marlin makes a cowboy model 45/70 with a 26" barrel. I think it's 8 lbs but I'm not sure about the 45/90. A member on here, crs maybe?, has hunted Africa with his 45/90 with no problems. There's a good episode of Tracks Across Africa where the host hunts buff with his Turnbull lever and got off a series of shots in short order. Very cool.

My first trip to Namibia I was on the same flight as Craig. The airlines left both are luggage in Dulles. He seemed like a likable guy

My only gripe with him is the Boddington Number 1 Rugers. He really sold his soul there. A really nice rifle with corners cut and not a penny off the sticker price either. I wouldn't want the .450 done that way either. Light and unattractive. Funny how that Rigby he hunted with was well adorned and not matted out cheap. I wouldn't want to put my name on something if I didn't like every detail. That's what a signature series means to me.

And to him it was money. You'll only push for your way so much when someone's pushing a paycheck at you.

@Tokoloshe Safaris
You forgot:
Muzzle brakes
Politics (read left wing)
Long range hunting
Well done meat
And wearing nylons or no nylons for DG.
(This last one might just be an amalgamation of the “On a Lighter Note” thread)

At SCI 2012 I asked CB about using a 45/70 on cape buffalo as the thought was entertaining me and I had heard of others using a Marlin Guide gun on such adventures. If I recall correctly he did not either condemn or condone the idea, but did ask if I was comfortable using one. When i mentioned that I was thinking of using a Ruger No. 1, he thought otherwise even though that rifle can handle hotter loads. He seemed pretty sincere to me.
