@BeeMaa I do not have the Summit press.

@BeeMaa I do not have the Summit press.
Appreciate it.
There are some guys at work who reload.
And there's alway YouTube...
I'm trying to approach this looking for answers.
As opposed to looking for validation to a choice I've already made in my head.
It's not always easy to be objective, but I'm trying.

Oh now you guys have done it. I thought I had put the Summit press in the past. Now once again I have one in my cart !!! Got a Birthday discount from Midway I need to use. Already have 2 single stage presses and 2 progressive, do I really need the Summit.

Yep, sure do.
Followed by a full write up and review. :D
I'm sure you can find another AH home for one of your single stage presses to make room.

It's tough to nail down all the parts and system in the beginning without second guessing oneself. I've probably gone through a half dozen presses, mostly for shits & giggles. :D They all did the job.

Experience like that eh?
Yeah, we might just need to talk for a bit if that's OK with you.
I'll shoot you a PM in a bit.
Cheers.

@BeeMaa , @PARA45 ....just for you guys....the ultimate single stage press shootout.

The conclusion was quite eye-opening I thought.

I've watched it a couple of times.
I subscribe to this guy.
I think he does a good job of staying objective and letting the results do the talking.

Is 32 inches too high for a reloading bench or about right? At that height should I mount the press directly to the bench or put it on one of those risers?

Mine is 36” high. I consider it perfect for me.. I have my press mounted directly to the bench..

I’m tall though (6’4”) and usually stand while reloading... if I do sit, I use a tall barstool that I keep at the reloading bench..

Here’s my simplistic reloading set up. It’s not organized yet as I’ve had to recently move it in the basement so my wife had room for her long arm quilting nightmare machine. I would like to have another press, but my old RCBS Jr. has worked well, even for forming .416 Taylor cases from .458WM cases. Anyway, I bought the bench from Lowe’s and assembled it in the basement. It’s 47” high, has two drawers and I have a bar stool if I wish to sit when reloading. It has a lower shelf for supplies and I have shelves on either side of it for more stuff. Ain’t pretty, but it works well for me.

@BeeMaa Have you made any progress on a bench or cupboard? Anything to show.
Have a Hornady LockN Load . I don’t see any point in the quick change bushings.
Honestly the one I really like is the Forster Coaxial from what I have seen and researched online.
Another company has a similar design now.

We continue to look at reloading, but it’s unlikely.
I did all the research, spreadsheets, ROI calculations...
It would pay for itself in 2-3 years.

However, it takes time...time I don’t have much of.
Time I’d rather spend shooting.
Not to mention the space needed for it.
The wife will still get the living room redone.
But my office, will stay an office, not a reloading room.

Fair call, yes return on investment could be hard to justify. It’s an interest or a hobby so yeah as a hunter it could be hard to see a return. Target shooters might recoup it quickly.

I enjoy it when I have time it’s actually relaxing if you can commit the time and space to that part of the interest.

I actually enjoy the time at the bench.. its cathartic in a weird sort of way...

But being 2020 and all.. thats not the real value I've found in reloading this year...

Good luck finding quality .308, .270, .30-06, etc on the shelf.. Cabelas, Academy, Bass Pro, etc in my area are slim pickins at best most visits.. and often literally have zero options..

And when you do find ammo... people want outrageous money for it right now if you arent buying from a big retailer like one of those listed above..

Im sitting on about 400 barnes 168gr .308 TTSX projectiles right now though.. I can still find a box or two of those pretty much every time I hit one of those stores.. and I've already got about 100 rounds of the same loaded for my .308's...

So while all of the other non reloading .308 shooters in the US are struggling to find ammo to hunt with or go to the range with... I'm sitting on a surplus..

ammo prices have shot through the roof this year overall.. especially pistol ammo and "tactical" ammo (556/223, 762/308, etc).. There are guys out there charging $1 a round for freaking FMJ .380 auto (normally about $0.30 a round).. and people are paying for it..

reloading supplies havent gone up in cost hardly at all though from what I can tell.. other than for primers.. people are gouging like hell on those.. but brass and bullets pretty much remain the same price that they were pre Biden scare, pre COVID, etc.... AND I'm starting to see primers back on the shelf (although in small numbers, and they go quickly..)... Sheels had both small rifle and small pistol primers in stock last week.. They hadnt had any in quite a while locally... they were reasonably priced.. I think they wanted $33 for 1000

For those that shun reloading and those that reload but are tight on supplies, prepare to reduce your shooting, especially pistol shooters. B/H are going full court press on all of it, hunting, shooting and otherwise.

yep... if you reload.. now is the time to stock up.. while you can still find stuff.. and before prices sky rocket..

I still cant find 8lb powder cans easily.. but I can get 1lb cans of what I need with little effort..

Brass isnt hard to come by at all right now...

Bullets are pretty easy to come by..

Primers are still scarce.. but you can find them if you make the effort..

I have a strong suspicion that this will all change for a little while in the near future though.. there is going to be another buying frenzy.. that will make just about anything firearm related scarce, and will drive up prices like crazy..

Now is the time to be buying yourself some reloading christmas presents..

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.
