Eland Hunt with KMG Hunting Safaris -Warning- Impact Shot

After following this bull into some pretty flat ground with thick vegetation, we were left to try and stalk in real close by means of having someone on a high point guide us in by means of radio. From the vantage point, almost 3/4 of a mile away, we were slowly instructed, step by step to get to our quarry.
As luck would have it, the wind turned, and the herd gathered our scent.

The difficult part was that there were two bulls in this herd of cows, and not too far apart on trophy quality. We wanted the oldest bull. The herd spooked, and we watched them running away, what seemed like days, only leaving a dust cloud in their wake. After climbing to another vantage point, we recognised their direction, and realised that we could get ahead of them and possibly approach them from above.
We watched as the herd became peaceful again, standing under a few trees in some thickets. We made the move, and came over the top of them, or at least where we thought they should be. The value of local knowledge soon paid off, as individual animals started showing themselves below us.

As we followed the hounds, we got caught in some rain weather which certainly aided in scent retention for the hounds. We had been called out the previous day as the hounds were hot on the scent, but lost the cat as he managed to evade us. Second time around, the dogs did well.

Hunting with dogs is so exciting for both mammals or birds! Just watching the intensity of the dogs makes the hunt exciting whether you get the quarry or not!

Yes sir, absolutely. I take great joy in watching good dogs work. Even watching our blood hounds on the track of a wounded animal is an experience by itself.

The curse of the African plains......:mad::mad:
They will run a 1 mile arc, just to make sure that they cross your path, on the way to whatever you are stalking.....

A solid Warthog for our hunter. Not the greatest camera angle, but till this day, I can remember this pig's massive body. He made a great shot with the Muzzle Loader across a small valley.

Here is another broomed off Eland bull taken with us. We saw this bull at over a 3/4 mile, and it took us more than an hour to make our way through the valley to get to the other side. Our trackers did a great job in getting us to crest not more than 150 yards away from where the bull was feeding still. At that distance, the size of the bull's neck, his dewlap and tuft clearly showed us that he was a good bull.

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
