Buffalo Hunt in the Northern Territory Australia ended very badly

That’s terrible.

That would be right. They seems to be a vindictive lot!
They’re the same ones who don’t wear leather shoes, handbags, eat meat, and they have canvas seat covers - lounge and car(s).
Bloody Hell!
They don’t seem to comment about fishers! Do they??

That's the "animal lovers" for you. An animal is worth more to them than a human being. I have family members that have quit talking to me decades ago due to my passion for hunting.
Yep!! I've even lost promotions at work because: "You hunt animals, Tim!"

And remember those bastards get all upset when an animal is hunted ethically, but do absolutely fuck all about the daily slaughter at their local abbatoir!! And why?? Because it's a convenient service and those bastards love eating meat!! They don't like it when I remind them that as a part of society they too share responsibility in tacitly condoning such slaughter.

I do enjoy debating with antis, because I always tell those hypocrites I've NEVER seen them hold a protest outside a KFC, McDonald's or in the meat section at their local supermarket!! So I challenge them by saying when they succeed in changing their society, I'll stop hunting - but until then they can go and get stuffed. Even vegans when they tell me they don't eat meat but have a vegetable patch, shut up and stalk off when told where their fertiliser comes from!!

there is some thing to be learned in this by all of use who hunt, try to be prepared for the hunt of animals who can kill use in a heart beat. hopefully those two men learned some thing usefull from their incounter with death and lived to talk about it.

Ben the quoted section below is what has/had me canning the hunter and his back. Makes it sound like they loosed arrows at the bush or any part of the Buff they could see. If so then I have no sympathy for them. If they actually placed well aimed arrows in vital areas then I dipps me lid to them willing to live a bit on the edge. Heavens knows I have done a bit of that in my time, not hunting but in other activities.

"Now wounded buff ran and hid in thick scrub. Hunter fired a few arrows and for some reason the buffalo charged and gored the hunter.

Apparently the hunters friend also fired some arrows from his cross bow when the buffalo was in hiding."

I can't help but recall the video of the owner of Cold Steel knives trying to use one of his spears on a buffalo in Australia. IMO, he took a very low percentage toss (it appeared that way from the camera angle). Even though he was very close, the buffalo turned and raised his head. Of course the spear hit and stuck in the horn.

Now the buffalo is mad and chasing him. He dodges around a termite mound and manages to draw a big bore revolver and shoot the bull multiple times, the bull falling dead pretty much at his feet. In slow motion, I can possibly hear the guide shoot before old Lynn gets his revolver out of his holster.

Exciting footage, but I can't help but think, "What a moron."

Can a nonresident bring a handgun to Australia and use it?

I would suggest that a lack of journalistic rigour may lead to misleading conclusions about the circumstances of the injuries.

At least, I hope so....

Sad part is, this is the world of love and tolerance in which we now live.

Exactly, I have no issues with people having different opinions then I. One should not live in a bubble. Unfortunately, nowadays, if one is not in line with the groupthink then they are "canceled". This is getting even worse in academia where difference of opinions are not tolerated. And that is where free discourse of ideas are supposed to happen!!!

I don't want to turn this thread into politics. However the art of turning a group/culture/nation on itself is well underway in most western countries. The manner in which this is done has been followed by some of histories worst figures, Hitler, Stalin, Mao etc. They were in a hurry what is happening now has been on going from the 1960's as far as I can see. The first Chinese Premier to visit Aust in the early 70's said in answer to a question "We already control your education system".

There are lots of differing opinions and perceptions of what happened to the bow hunter in question , maybe he is a fool for hunting a dangerous animal without sufficient “firepower” , or maybe he is a great ethical hunter that has a lot of respect for his quarry and wanted to hunt it in a fair way , giving the animal a fair chance and making it a challenge by pitting his skills and senses against that of the animal .
Could be that the hunter knew exactly what the risk was and that he was prepared to take that risk in order to have the type of hunt and adrenalin laden challenge he planned . Maybe he thinks the hunters who use high powered rifles to hunt are a bunch sissies ?
Is a person that hunts DG such as Cape Buffalo with a .375 H&H under gunned and stupid if compared to someone like Mark Sullivan that carries a .600 NE ?
Fact is we don't have all the facts and should maybe be less critical until we do .
There are many ways to hunt / shoot / kill an animal in an “ethical” way and as hunters we should be more accommodating of some of these methods if they differ from our own way of hunting , but at the same time we must speak out if another's actions are totally in contradiction of accepted ethics and norms , but to do that one must first have all the correct facts .
I for one do not consider sitting in a blind shooting an animal with either bow or rifle really hunting , but as long as the shooter does all within his power to kill the animal quickly and cleanly I do not demonize them . I am of the opinion that walking and stalking with a bow is real hunting if compared to being in a blind , but this is purely my opinion .
Would I pursue a dangerous animal without enough firepower ? Most probably not .
I hope the hunter in question a complete and speedy recovery , and would like to hear his side of the story at some stage .

This entire thread and subsequent posts has scared me! First off, I really hope the brave hunter in question here, makes a full recovery! But bows/crossbows, arrows/bolts, PHs with no scopes on their backup crossbows, etc, etc., hunting DG? The only thing missing from this fiasco is the lack of a suppressed .303 British SMLE used by someone to finish off the wounded bull? I mean, this happened in OZ! The land of flying monkeys and the .303 British cartridge! What is up!

at best it will be a costly lesson to the hunter, his medical bills will by large along with the pain to him and his loved ones worrying about him.

You have just given me an idea - living here in SA elephants are not hard to find . I think my next challenge will be for me to take my single shot falling block Martini Enfield 303 and hunt an elephant , but no worries I will have my Glock 19 , 9mmP on my side loaded with 17 rounds of FMJ - I think I will be OK .

Good idea Paul. Two things to remember though, first make out a new will and testament, and secondly make sure you spell my name correctly when you leave me your firearms:LOL::LOL:
