The Dangerous Game Rifle "The Alaskan" from Montana Rifle Company

I read online it was closer to 9 pounds, I'd like to confirm before I order. 9 pounds is too heavy for me, I like my 375 H&H to be around 8.5 pounds scoped.

I had an MRC in 375 H&H. It was the stainless, synthetic stock version. It weighed around 8lbs 8oz. It had a rather heavy contour barrel that made it a bit heavy on the front. I'm guessing a larger caliber with the same barrel contour would balance nicely.

Hello,

A very nice rifle!!! But I also see the barrel contour a bit heavy for a .375 H&H. I would like a barrel contour more like the new Winchester Alaskan .375 H&H. The balance and handling would be a lot better, in my opinion. That balance, to me, should be like the one in the British Mausers in .375 H&H, a "between the hands" balance!
I don't know why, usually, many .375 H&H factory rifles are made with such heavy barrels. Perhaps is because the factories must standardize a barrel profile for all the big bores...

It would stand to reason that it makes their .375 H&H offerings more well mannered for the starter magnum that it is. A beginning big bore shooter mounting a scope stop his rifle because he has to have all the gadgets he sees on TV does not wish to be rolled over and black-eyed. The .375 apparently sells well and turns over at my Larger LGS. I see some merit in having one barrel profile as well.

Thank you for your answer, Sir.
I see the practical and logistics as the main reasons the factories do offer the same barrel profile for all their big bore rifles, starting from the .375 H&H. The black eyed issue is easy to avoid. Some brands, Winchester a perfect sample, do offer two barrel weight option for the .375 H&H. Good!
Best regards and thank you again!

I handled one of these in 375 H&H today. It seems to be a very nice rifle. I don't particularly care for the looks of the rear sight, though certainly functional. This seemed to be a great off the shelf stainless rifle, at a reasonable price.

Had this rifle been in 416 Remington, I would have been most tempted to purchase it on the spot. I have a sufficient personal quota of stainless 375's at this time.

I couldn’t agree more! I own several MRC rifles but dream of the day they offer a barrel band front sight, v notch rear and barrel band sling point. I will wait patiently for someone to pick up on it.

There is supposed to be some announcement from MRC tomorrow about a SAFARI rifle.

The Lott weighs in around 8'11 due to heavier bbl and contour.
Can be in long action only due to bolt and feeding issues
Ron do you guys have a rep in the UK??? I have a hankering for a 505 Gibbs!!!!

ideal rifle.
Sling holder over the barrel (why not ...?) and it would be perfect.
Costa quanta ?

What was the announcement??
No idea.
I checke their website.
There was a full page ad in the SCI mag Nov/Dec edition right near the front.
Something about a "Safari Elite Series".

I suppose it would be a better question for Ron Petty the CEO of MRC.

Anybody receive an announcement? There is a lot of patience with these folks. Hope they deliver.

416 Remington magnum is definitely the way to go!

Perfect for wet coastal Alaska DG hunting!
I can’t afford the hunt but what’s the rifle retail for?
I have this idea that I want a small functional collection of rifles , Bunny rifle, spotlighting rifle, varmint rifle, long range rifle, Elephant gun etc. You get it. What I’m currently missing is a mountain rifle and a bear rifle.
I don’t have big game close by but I’m happy tinkering with my rifles and hunting with them when I can.

The Montana Rifle Company website says that "The Alaskan" MSRP in USA is USD1949. No idea how to get one in Oz.

The one 375 H&H was priced at $ 1799, if I recall correctly. It was definitely 1700 something.
I feel more economical than what I have done prior. Buying a 375 H&H in a M70 Classic, modifying with McMillan stock, bedding in, etc.
And the added cost of re-barrel to 416 Remington definitely drives the price up.
