So, I Was In The Loading Room Today...

and I was doing some case prep.

470 NE, 450-400 NE, 45-70 and 32 Special.

First thing that dawns on me is - as I get older, I am mostly loading really old, rimmed cartridges!

The second thing that hit me was how strange that the 32 Special and the 470 NE use the same size primer (albeit a magnum primer in the 470). Seems like the 470 could use a little more horsepower...or the 32 Spl is getting some overkill!

The previous loads in these two cases were, respectively, 28 grains of Reloder 7 and 105 grains of IMR 4831.

That's quite a span for priming duties...not to mention the powder column length difference!

Lastly, I don't think there has been a day in the past two weeks that I have not been in the loading room for at least a little while, doing something productive (sometimes I just go in there and stare for a bit, but not lately).

Be honest...do you think I need therapy?

Of course you need therapy, what that has to do with loading I haven’t a clue. Clearly that .470 needs a neck turning else it’s only worth a $1 practice round.

How right you are!!

I paid $1.36 for that case as a once-fired and I have loaded it twice with only a trim and chamfer....so I doubt it is even worth a dollar any longer!!

As for neck turning...only sado-masochists do that!!!!

Funny hobby this! My reloading desk is also my work desk. I like to keep an assortment of brass and bullets out just to ponder and compare them. I think there is honestly a meditative aspect to it.

You are already getting therapy. Isn't that what reloading is? Therapy for a shooting and hunting addiction? Shoot, Reload (at the loading bench), shoot! I find it quite therapeutic. Does anyone else get excited when the rounds actually come together and you have 50 shiny new cartridges ready to take to the range or on the hunt? Plus, There is just something about taking an animal with a round you loaded yourself. Even better when you cast or made the bullet/ rifle yourself too! People who shoot factory ammo just won't know that joy until they convert!

May I suggest hug therapy or possibly a comfort animal? I think these may help as you haven’t gotten to the point of rolling around in a golden wildebeest loincloth in a pile of 500 grain Swift A-Frames while chanting load data. Not to offend anyone that does such of course. I have had some of the best conversations with myself in the reloading room although some of the arguments get quite heated at times especially over CBL and CRF vs. Push feed!
We can work through this, maybe a new No. 1 in 30-40 Krag is just what the Dr ordered!

I'm so glad I'm not alone in sometimes just going to the basement to stare at bullets and brass or peruse loading manuals.
My reroading setup is about a quarter of my basement... And it isn't enough! I feel claustrophobic!!!! I NEED HELP!!!

Does your wife have a sewing or craft room? If so that is an excellent option for additional powder and bullet storage!
