SOUTH AFRICA: Beware Motshwere Safaris & Outfitters

50x50:

I am the one you should have been referring to in the above post. I am glad to clarify a few things, and dispute some of your assumptions.
.......

I'm a bit confused @woodruffhunter. ......

I'm done making public displays so if you'd like to work it out in private, you're more than welcome to PM me.

Whew! Took away from my beauty sleep reading thru this thread.
A good thread it was. I think most of us that have hunted extensively have had a issue with an outfitter. I've had my share, internationally and US.

Thanks to all who posted here.

I appreciate the report very much. A constructive critical report on an unsatisfactory hunt is usually far more helpful to fellow travelling hunters then the many glowing reports on the forums.
Often the negative reports come from new members who haven't learned how much pushback and bullshit that you can get from other memberswho are often shills of the bad outfitter.
I appreciaite the poster's courage and clarity.

Negative reports help to keep the industry clean and honest. It keeps the bar high, it is back handed support for all the other outfitters who do a good job and it costs the offending outfitter thousands of dollars in lost revenue. Works for me!

When I travel half way around the world to spend two thousand dollars a day on a hunt, I am going to be treated professionally or will make the outfitter famous.
I wish more people would speak up when it's called for.
Grrrrr. Brian

It appears the OP requested a quote for D&P and received and agreement for same, if the email is correct.
Therefore, the D&P is the Outfitters issue.

Moth Larvae do not occur in properly processed trophies. They can not live through a proper disinfection process.

I'm not sure if the timing of this post has to do with the appearance of the Outfitter at a Utah show or not. Perhaps it does.

Steve Roberts, perhaps you can ask Werner to jump in and provide his side of the story, since you apparently know him well.

One way or the other, when questions are asked and not answered here it tends to reduce credibility exponentially. :)

Just my 2 cents in 10 safaris with a variety of outfitters I have had many different experiences ....however a little bit of walking in the other man's shoes goes a long way .......

On one safari I could see some things where not working out so asked lets try plan b .....

However over the years on here i have noticed a trend to expectations by hunters that are naive or even foolhardy ........

I now book clients and everyone is given a very realistic lecture about how and what and what may not happen .....

Ok .02 usd the poorer

Russ-

Sorry you had a bad experience with the dip and pack process and tho unaffiliated you have associated this with Werner and Mothswere Safaris. As a bow hunter having been to SA as well as having friends who live in SA it can be difficult and frustrating getting things in and out of that country. Dip and pack services are rarely offered from the outfitter directly and is always up to the hunters discretion should they chose to use a different dip and pack service from any recommendations that may be provided. Its probably one of the most important things to have researched and arranged before you show up in country to hunt. It sounds like Werner went beyond his responsibilities to work with the dip and pack company to make things right for you. I personally spent the entire month of July with Werner in 2017 bow hunting. You can see all of the pictures on their Facebook account. Having never hunted with him before I had a great trip and felt like I was dealt with very fairly. The food and accommodations exceeded my expectations and his staff was very accommodating. 32 days in Africa could be very expensive but he was very straight forward and there were no surprises once the details were agreed upon before I arrived. Having spent a month there I got to see beyond your average 2 week experience most people have. Most of the clients that came through the camp while I was there had already hunted with Werner before, had brought friends and family back with them, or were referred by someone that had hunted there before. Like any business transaction its important to be clear and have a written contract before services are rendered. I know Werner allowed me to write the contract which he reviewed and we both signed. Now having said that if you take an animal that is not in your contract you should expect to pay his current list price. I shot animals that were not initially on my contract and he still worked with me on pricing. We worked together on substituting animals on my contract that I decided I would rather not hunt with animals that were not on my contract. One of the deciding factors to hunt with Mothswere for me was a friend who had previously booked and due to a family event they were not able to go. My friend told me Werner refunded the non-refundable deposit to him and his family members. You wont get that from many outfitters.... That same friend has been to Africa 3 times prior and attended for his 4th time on my trip. I asked how his experiences differed from one outfitter to the next in different countries and he said his trip with Mothswere was hands down his best experience from the accommodations, staff, and hunting. Again, sorry you had a bad experience but perhaps the focus should be on lessons learned with dip and pack and not the outfitter. If anyone would like further details about my experience feel free to private message me and I can provide contact details for myself and my friend who hunted with Mothswere.

I am about to rant here so I apologize in advance.

You know what makes me mad, is not when a new member complains but when a new member joins to rebute the complaint. Obviously this done by the outfitter or could be the outfitter. Why doesn't the outfitter just reply and be done with it. We don't need a bunch of new members saying how their hunt was rainbows and gum drops without a comment from the outfitter.

If the outfitter replies and then get a bunch of guys to back him, fine whatever. However, you even knew the person making the complaint, saw them at the show and didn't talk to them. The fact you can spot his clients by their face at a huge show seems odd to me. Did you sell him the hunt in a previous year, is that how you knew his face? Since his hunts sell themselves when you are working in his both I guess you don't get compensated with cheaper trophy fees? You wouldn't happen to have a business interest in posting a rebuttal?

Something does seem odd. Rant over.

The above post seems to be relevant again.

I am not a new member, I am also not affiliated with the outfitter. And you will not see me working at his booth. I am just representing the good experience I had along with a friend who hunted with me. Not everyone has the same experience and that is unfortunate, but you also cant unfairly discount all the good experiences that outnumber the one bad one. User reviews are valuable, most people read the good ones and bad ones before they buy anything online. From my observation being there for a month everyone had a great experience. For me it was a once in a life time trip and I will probably never find myself back there again. Again, if anyone wants my personal contact info please private message me.

Awesome.

I agree, different experiences are had. You should write yours up in a separate thread with lots of pictures. We would all love to read it. With a month long hunt I'm sure there is plenty to tell. :)

Agree with Royal, please write a report as new stories are thin on the ground this time of year.

+1 ^^ What he said^^

This is my first post here. I discovered AfricaHunting.com after a google search researching Motshwere Outfitters. I wanted to respond to the first thread I ever read here. Just so you know, nobody recruited me to write this, I just wanted to be fair and set the record straight by sharing my personal experience with this outfitter. I would like to participate here in the future too.

Two years ago, a couple that we know told us about their recent hunting experience in Africa. It was with Motshwere safaris and it sounded incredible. They described a very exciting and fun hunt where they had a great time. We became very interested when they told us they were going back again in 2018, and invited us along. I did some research by calling some of the referrals listed in the Motshwere literature, and spoke with about ten people by phone. All of them mentioned that it was a great time, the experience of a lifetime. One guy said "The way they treated us it was better than royalty. You can't describe how good they treat you." After talking with all these hunters who had had a great time, and very successful trophy hunts, we decided to go. We met Werner and one of his PHs at a hunting expo and they were great guys, genuine and very friendly. They came to visit us in person in our small town, and treated us very well, and were very informative and respectful. I can honestly say that our experience signing up with Motshwere has been great. Werner took extra time with us to see that all of our needs were met. We signed up for a tour of Kruger National Park and a plains game hunt and we are so excited for this hunting trip, which is coming up soon! We are expecting to have a good time and a successful hunt. I will let you know how it goes!

Did I miss it or has the outfitter failed to address the issues the hunters have posted on this thread?

I’m not sure any one has stated they had a bad experience in the meet and greet with Werner .
I hope you have a great trip bob o .
