Live critters up close get me sweating and shaking. :E Sweat:

Looking forward to the reports!

A little is not the problem.

I think they are 415 grains. Memory is short.

I'll certainly be posting pictures of the suit. It will be quite funny no doubt.

@BRICKBURN , AH is going to be pretty quiet with you in Africa.

Simon, there are lots of crazy people (members) who like hunting in Africa and have done just fine maintaining the jabber on AH without me hitting the keyboard.

Looking forward to the report!

I really want a vaal rhebok.....knowing me, I'd probably want to keep on hunting them too.

:D Pop Popcorn:Here's hoping for a great safari!!! Cheers

They are as addicting as Sheep hunting in the Rockies.

I wish the best hunt to you Wayne.....waiting for your allways exellents reports.....!!!!!

Have a great time there.....!!!!

Thanks Rocket.

Since I have done most of the research for the species I have hunted I need to play catch up on this one.

Today I found some research papers on Hippotragus niger.
Since this will be my first hunt for these beasts I wanted to find out a little more about their habits.

A few of the articles I have managed to gather:

Comparative use of burnt grassland by rare antelope species in a lowveld game ranch, South Africa
Body growth and age determination of the Sable Hippotragus Niger Niger (Harris, 1838)
Movement patterns of sable antelope in the Kruger National Park from GPS/GSM collars: a preliminary assessment
Habitat and forage dependency of sable antelope (Hippotragus niger) in the Pretorius Kop region of the Kruger National Park
The costs of drinking: comparative water dependency of sable antelope and zebra
Genetic revival of SA Sable Antelope Populations

Provided some excellent learning ops for me:
Foraging, what times of day and the preferred grasses and grass heights.

Water dependancy was interesting
Hunting pressure and
there Sables response in a hunting and non Hunting area in Zimbabwe.

This was an interesting tidbit from an article on Sable breeding.

Interesting that Angola doesn't have more listings in RW. Especially with the possible interbreeding with Giant Sable.

I guess a possible reason is that RW is an English language publication and people that hunted in Angola were generally not English speaking. Another reason might be that Angola had a small window as an international hunting destination prior to the war with SWA and RSA. Or, maybe they just didn't have large sable.

You never know why people did not enter a trophy. You only get to compare what showed up on measuring day.
I can not even fathom all the possible reasons for the data being skewed.

Wayne have a great and safe trip! Sounds like I will just miss you over there with Pieter. I arrive on the afternoon of August 27th. If I counted the days right you will be headed back home about then. Wish you were still in country then as I would like to meet you!
Hope you get a big Sable. do you plan on taking the Sable with your bow?

That was not the original plan Charlie. It may begin the works, as the bow is coming along to Mozambique now. No permits and fees required.

We will miss each other by a couple of days. Have to let Pieter prepare for your hunt.
I'll have him warmed up though! :)

I like it Wayne! Tell him to get some bourbon for camp and share one with him before you leave! Bryson and I will finish the bottle with him and toast you! Can't wait to see the Sable pictures!

Had to do some redistribution with my packing today. That ammunition box being carried in the checked baggage apparently weighs something.
More stuff into the rifle case, somehow.
