For the Weatherby fans...Did you see this?

The DGR is $4k. A Parkwest Bushveld identically outfitted comes to $9790 using their Build Your Rifle feature. A Hill Country Custom Safari "starts" at $7900. Except that the latter two use a CRF action and offer standard calibers, I can't think of a reason a Weatherby enthusiast or the "just curious" would choose them at $2x over the Weatherby. It looks like a nice rifle to me, though I've never handled one. The Weatherby carts are a showstopper for me though.

I would say its an affordable and good option. Based on everything else they have done since their move and re-invention as a company based in Wyoming, I take my hat off to them, it's an American iconic company, with incredible history. Fact is, Roy Weatherby was light years ahead of his time with caliber development. Weatherby isn't producing any garbage at all, even their vanguard is a workhorse. The improvements in the actions (307), are evident when you look at them. I've just evolved into a rifle snob with expensive CRF actions and big-name makers, otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these in 416 Weatherby and kill everything on earth. They are very aware of their market, fact is this younger generation buys more for utility, value, and experience more than status, appearance, or resale value for that matter.

When considering such a purchase, Heym really needs to be in the conversation. They make their own acitons, barrels, stocks...and each set to their own specific set of specifications. The length of the magazine box is specific to the cartridge, barrel profile is specific to the cartridge...everything under one roof is purpose built to harvest the intended game. If this rifle is being considered, their are much better options available at a more reasonable price that don't include a muzzle brake as a standard option.

The least expensive Heym Express is 5x the MSRP; it's a different conversation. The muzzle brake is threaded; it can be removed.

My first rifle was a Weatherby MkV in .300 Wby Mag. It's older than I am. It's been re-barreled, re-blued, and I still use it. I like the action. That said, it's no longer my go-to rifle.

As for DG calibers, convincing the world that DG bullets need to exit the muzzle in the 2700-2900 fps range is going to be an uphill climb. If they make it in .416 Rigby, I'll be instantly interested. I can't for the life of me think of a single thing the .416 Wby can do that the .416 Rigby can't. Sure, it would extend the effective range of a 350-400 grain bullet, by for what purpose?

I agree; the limiting factor on a Weatherby purchase is less the rifle and more the cartridges. Who really wants a Weatherby cart anymore? I did 40 years ago, but that time has passed. I would prefer to load DOWN standard cartridges from their typical/factory designations. Like load DOWN a 458WM 450gr to 2000fpm to get 4000ftlb; or a 416RM 400gr to 2150 to get the same energy. The velocity race is long over in the hunting world and the beanfield rage "I think" ended awhile back also. I don't know what the current trend is; "I think" it's turning sniper/tactical rifles into hunting guns.

I don’t understand the hate of weatherby rifles. These are turn-key $4000 rifles in some non-weatherby cartridges. They are made to order which for weatherby likely means one guy is doing each rifle just like the varminter and the deluxe lines. If there were a gripe to be given it would be that they aren’t CRF and the stocks aren’t as great for recoil adsorption as Mr. Roy said they were. Also, the muzzle brakes are removable.

"I think" they are no longer made to order; they are regular production now, which was the yesterday Instagram announcement. The only non-WB cartridge is 375H&H; everything else is proprietary.

Like others, I'm happy to see a company dedicated to DG rifles. That said, it's like having an AMX Javelin when you really wanted a GTO. It's still a muscle car, but it just doesn't look right.
I kinda liked the AMC line, especially the Hornet.

Re-issue the Weatherby 416 Weatherby?

Been doing a lot with a Weatherby 416 mag, I don't understand the hate either -- smooth action, quality construction. It can use Factory ammo, or load down to 416 Rigby or 416 Remington spec's.
Post a pic, I bet it has something at the end of the barrel. Not a silencer but a “loudencer”?:cool::D Cheers:

FYI, the latest WBY big bore rifles have a screw on break and a thread protector as standard.
Oh I’m just having fun!

I can move onto montecarlo stocks or high gloss finish if need be :sneaky:

Just jokes, cheers

If you watch a number of videos on African safari you will see a large number of rifles with breaks--- even those provided by the PH.

I’ll take it that my guess was right about what’s on the end of your .416 Weatherby lol.

And yes I agree, an unfortunate amount of US hunters show up to Africa with a muzzle break on their rifle. I do disagree with the second part of your statement - of “a large number” of camp rifles being breaked. That is just statistically untrue. By a long shot.

We must remember, our young PH’s wish to hear the sweet voices of their grandchildren one day. :ROFLMAO: “Huh?”

" A large number , that I see int the videos" And I also purchased a number of hearing protection devices for our group -- just saying.

African hunters arent all knowing for sure, i was in a blind when i shot my first buffalo over there. Had a 454 casull and told the ph to cover his ears. He let me know how bigger a gun they are used to and refused. He was videoing my shot unfortunately. At the shot u can see the bullet connect and then u see the floor as u can hear him shrieking about how loud it was. I wear my hearing protection when needed. Its up to everyone else to take care of their ears.
