Pleased to be able to join and feeling good about seeing so many fellow Canadians here.

Long time hunter in Canada (bear is my favourite but if it is legal I will hunt it). Just booked my first hunt in Africa for Sept of 2026 to fulfill a dream of harvesting a Cape Buffalo. Have already been kicking around the site a fair bit and have learned a great deal and am looking forward to learning a lot more.

Sincere thanks to the many who have already helped me learn some of the basics and get my feet under me around here.

@RLD - Welcome to the site, I’m sure you will enjoy it —- a wealth of info and experience is now available to You. I lived in Ontario for 2 years 1991-1993 near Brampton and still keep in touch with a hunting friend I met there. Hope you enjoy and benefit from this site as much as I have….regards !

:S Welcome:

Welcome aboard RLD. Are you planning on taking your own or renting a rifle from your outfitter? While I cannot be considered a Canadian, I live about a mile and a half from the border.

I have many relatives and good friends in Michigan. Great state.

I will be renting the rifles I need. The operator tells me he has a vide variety of classic and modern rifles to choose from depending on what I might enjoy.

Welcome aboard @RLD

Welcome fellow Canadian. This is definitely the best site to immerse and learn hunting Africa.

Good to see more of us from up north.

Oh yea no yea welcome aboard eh!

Greetings. I have lived in Ontario since '89. Still a US citizen, although almost ashamed to acknowledge it these days. I have been to Africa hunting four times, three times for buffalo. Two on the wall. Try to find time to hunt kudu. Quite challenging and a beautiful trophy. I can help with advice re getting your guns over and trophies back.

Welcome to AH, RLD. I'm not Canadian but my first girlfriend was from the St. Catherines, ON area. Not that it counts or anything.

Seriously, this is a great place to ask questions and get good answers for anything Africa hunting related.

When I read that "great White North" I thought right away-there's even one from Greenland:)
Welcome in the best forum .

@RLD, welcome to AH. There's lots of good info and good guys here. Which coast are you closer to?
You should consider taking your own firearms to Africa, it's not that hard, you just need good info and you will always have that experience to remember when you look at those rifles.
Cheers

I am in Toronto, so pretty close to the middle. I may have to look into that, I think you are right about the memories attached to the rifle. Plus it means adding at least one more to the collection!

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
