As usual, @Red Leg and I have no disagreement upon facts. I agree.

I'm just a poor kid from a farm in po-dunk so I count my nickels twice. My point is that lovely $7000 gun when claw mounted optic is added, plus regulation, plus cleanup of the stock defects and pad, we are over $11,000. So the debate is on approach, not facts.

When I see good gun deals, I see "package guns" selling for nearly the price of "bare bones guns". If you are going to add EAW pivot mounts or claws, and do stock work, and outsource regulation, I prefer to find a bargain on a cased, all-in gun, with ammo, and targets.

People are bargain hunters. They will buy cheap every time before they buy good. I'd rather spend a grand more and get six grand more bells and whistles. Otherwise, you're buying a project/hobby/profession than an object.

Highest regard for @Red Leg in all of this. I make no disparaging comments about his guns or wisdom, this is just a disagreement in bargain shopping.

In the end, nobody loses. This is a quality gun and will smoke an Eland as good as any other gun.

Now I'm going to leave you to check my wallet, ensuring I still have that $5 savings bond from my first commune still intact. #RookhawkFrugality
Let me type this slowly. The - rifle - has - claw - bases. All it needs is rings fitted to them. I have no idea what NECG charges for fitted rings, but JJ Perodeau has done at least half a dozen for me over the years. The cost is FAR less than $2400. I'll give you his phone number. ;)

I agree with you whole heartedly about trying to make a purse out of a sow's ear. I have way too much experience doing so. In large measure, that is why this rifle caught my attention. This has zero to do with bargain shopping and everything to do with a quality Austrian rifle at a very fair price.

I am also not sure what you mean by regulation. Again assuming the barrels are in good shape, this is a load development not regulation issue.

Two examples.

This is Kessler 9.3x74R. I acquired it 15 years ago. Rings by JJ and load developed by Lance Hendershot. It shoots 2.5" groups at 100 yards. I later had the action case colored by Turnbull. Still all in for less than $7500.

9.3x74R Double Rifle

New Verney Carron Sagittaire 9.3x74R. Came with expected 3" target fired at 50 yards. Regrettably, the rounds were sxs. To date, neither Lance nor I have found anything that will shoot under six inches at 100. Probably make a fine stopping rifle for charging wildebeest. And JJ still had to work on the safety and triggers to make it useable.

The Kessler was a far wiser investment.

That's a lovely gun. It's not a steal, but if a fellow wants to pay honest dollars for a foolproof reliable rifle, that's a great package.

Nobody gets let down or made fun of for owning a Dakota.
If Dakota were still in business and making African Travelers (Parkwest has no intention) what do you think this would retail for? Then the optics I suspect they are worth 3K?

You’re the fifth or more person to ask me about this gun. Add up the import costs and time.

I’m on the right side of the border. But I’m dropping nearly 100k on renovations this summer, so I don’t have nice gun money. I was just curious on your opinion.

I think that is a spectacular price. They are not making any more. It can only go up in value.

Import cost from Canada could take up to 4 months max and $1200
Please!!!!! I’ve posted multiple times how this isn’t remotely true!

Irunguns ships cross border once a month. So depending on when your rifle get to their facility, you may have to wait till the next cycle. I’ve never waited over two months to have an item imported by them.

I just imported a German Rifle through Canada valued close to 25K and it took around 6 weeks and $1,130 to import.
