Hi Everyone,

I just joined and wanted to say hello!

I've been reading the site for the last couple weeks and finally decided to join. This website has been a wealth of knowledge from my little bit of time spent on here and I am looking forward to learning more.

I am mainly an upland hunter wanting to hunt Africa in the coming years and need to start learning. Love collecting guns mainly English stuff, shotguns and nice rifles.

Hello Rubi_300,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.
When you have a spare moment, take a look at our web site.

Best Regards,
Velo Dog.

Been there, now I am on the hunt Africa stick! Be careful, as you will read here, one doesn't hunt Africa just once. Anyway, hunting Africa isn't as hard or as expensive as most think. Not if you plan it out and select a good outfitter/PH.

It is quickly becoming apparent that I have a lifetime of planning hunting trips to Africa ahead of me. I'm not gonna complain about that, there's much worse things I could do with my time and money!

Welcome and have fun planning your first safari!

Hello and welcome!

Welcome aboard Rubi_300. You will find this site as addicting as your desire to accumulate fine firearms. Lots of our outfitters / sponsors offer wing shooting in addition to four-legged game hunts. Do you have any particular time frame in mind for your first African hunt?

I never thought about doing any bird hunting in Africa but that sounds amazing! Hopefully looking to go in 2024 to be realistic. I would like to go after plains game on my first trip to get my feet wet over there and hopefully make it a yearly event to go over there and hunt.

Welcome to the site! You have certainly come to the right place to learn about hunting in Africa. The people here are passionate and love to share what they know....and I've only been here myself a couple weeks. Also, I see you are from Ohio. I grew up in Western PA in a small town called Fenelton (outside of Butler an hour north of Pittsburgh).....so we are neighbors. Sort of! Anyway, welcome to the site!

Thank you! I've never made it up that way other than briefly passing through but have been wanting to explore more of my eastern neighbors!

Pennsylvania is a beautiful state. It's funny, though, when I lived there I took it for granted. I have actually traveled less in PA than I have in any other place I've lived! When living in SC, Alaska, and now Idaho, I think nothing of driving hours to explore a new town or hike a new trail....but I didn't do that in PA unfortunately!

Sounds like you've lived in all the great states for having a passion for the outdoors! I have family in Alaska and while they aren't into the hunting they love to salmon fish. My Christmas present from them is always a box of smoked salmon that they catch and smoke themselves. Do you do much hunting in Idaho?

Actually, I'm not a hunter! LOL! But, I do go with my husband. I love being in Idaho's backcountry as long as Rick can keep me warm and fed...which is no problem. There is always a little wood stove in our tents and I keep it cranking (almost burnt the tent down one night when I forgot to close the damper). This year we hunted with a friend who guides (Rick traded) so we were able to go on horseback. That is especially WONDERFUL. We rode 15 miles on trails like "Never again switchback" and finally got to an amazing high-mountain meadow...aptly named Paradise Meadow. We saw lots of elk sign, set up camp, bugled and just before dark had one return a short weird sounding bugle. Went back to camp to cook ....all excited for the next day. Less than an hour later, a whole pack of wolves started howling. We listened for three hours as they moved closer and closer to the meadow. They were there by morning (saw tracks but never saw them). Needless to say, it ended our hunt. Elk will not bugle with wolves in the area. I joke that that weird bugle we heard was the elk trying to tell us to "shut the frank up!" We called the wolves right to us.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
