My zebra hide is at the rugger (stateside) currently, and I'm just wondering what everyone has paid to have their zebra rugs done?
Mine won't be done on felt, just the leather backing with rings. I'm super excited to have it back, but also curious at what it generally costs.
Also I want to see everyone's zebra rugs.

Had mine done in RSA. IIRC, with felt backing it was around $200.

I had mine done in Namibia in 2015 and I think I paid $450 with felt backing. I've found that the price difference in the flat work is significant, more so than the taxidermy. I get more comments on the rug than any mounts that I have.

I happen to be looking into RSA taxidermists recently and have two current price lists. One is $475 the other $500 for a flat skin zebra, no felt.

My Burchels was done in Polokwane, RSA by Safari Taxidermy. It has a felt backing with a black leather edge. I really like the leather edging because it doesn’t show dust nor dog hair.

I am not an expert, but that strikes me as a little high. I had hartebeest and oryx done in Namibia in 2017, just flat skin, no backing, and I think they were less than $300 each, maybe $200.

Most quality Stateside taxidermists will trim in leather and back with leather or a carpet type backing material. Very few use felt any longer. It is not durable, collects dust, and is dangerous to walk on because it slides on hardwood or tile. Poor form to make guests sign a release before entering the trophy room. (y)

In addition to zebra and blue wildebeest, treating any unusual hides that way can create beautiful and unusual rugs. I did a euro on my second Nyla and the leather trimmed and fully backed rug from it is one of the most striking “trophies” in the house.

Depending on the size of the hide, that sort of work will run high hundreds to a bit over a thousand. You can save a bit by having the hide tanned over there and the rug work done in the States.

I have another pricelist from 2017 from RSA that has a zebra at $550, though I think it's meant as price with felt. Felt on the two prices I already mentioned was an additional $65 for the $500 tan quote and $120 for the $475.

Namibia and RSA are not the same for costs of tanning. I've been to Namibia twice in 2013 and 2016 and Nakara tannery was much less expensive for tanning hides than RSA. My gemsbok, hartebeest and both wildebeest were less than $200 each. Zebra was something close to that I recall.

It appears you are correct - bigger price difference than I would have expected between the two countries.

Whoa. These prices seem really reasonable. My trophies just arrived in San Francisco, and @Animal Artistry will receive them in a week. The quote I got from them for the zebra to tan and attach felt backing...$1,600.

Mine is getting done in the US (tanning and rugging) and I'm assuming it will be $1500 easily.

Mine just about ready for delivery with my other trophies. $1150.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA
