Has anyone ever had a rug made out of an immature zebra?

On my last safari, my PH had me take a risky shot through some brush, and I shot a younger specimen. I still feel bad about it.

Any thoughts on how the rug will turn out? Will it look bad because it is a bit smaller?

Consider having it tanned and make something out of it other than a rug.
Some ideas:
ottoman recovered
rifle case
accents on a pedestal mount.
an african style shield

I am sure there are numerous other options to consider.

My zebra skin became a wingback chair. My wife has a zebra pedestal mount being done and the back skin will become an ottoman to go with our chair.

I mean, I didn't shoot a foal or the equivalent of a Shetland pony.

I like to describe it as slightly undersized.

Pick a smaller room to display it and no one is even going to notice.
Who knows how big a Zebra is?!

I'm with BRICKBURN. Do whatever you want with it. Who will notice?

Well.... unless you have a big AH get together at your house.... ;)

Go with the rug. You won't regret it. It's the classic "must have" for any trophy room.

A zebra shot in Tanzania in the late 60s and turned into a rug was my first introduction to African hunting when I was a very small boy. Over 40 years later I shot my own. The friend of my father who shot that zebra, and still has it hanging on his wall, is the first person I sent the photo to.

So yeah, nothing like a zebra rug.

Thanks guys. I went with the zebra rug. I'll actually be receiving it in a week or two. Just getting a little worried that it might look weird.

If it's like what I've noticed, visitors will gawk at how cool the rug is, even those less than favorable to hunting. Zebra rugs look awesome!

when you get the rug, if you aren't pleased, then you can choose to do something else with it.
But If I wanted a rug for sure, then that is what I would for sure do.

I am sure you will enjoy your rug...

Tex84 sorry your PH gave you bad advice but any zebra is still very nice!

Nothing says "Africa" than a beautiful zebra rug. I definitely have to go for more.

You will not like it being small.
The solution is to send it to me and go get another larger one. I will take care of it and you will no longer need to worry.

Or just put it up in a smaller room or mixed in with other mounts so it is not by itself on a wall.

Hi PaulB. Would you be interested in another WJ Jeffery .450/.400 NE 3". It's an extractor model and in superb condition, cased as well. Made in 1908. The rifle is here in Texas.
