Whisky appreciation

This thread has gone so long...I know we talked about gin somewhere and I can't remember if it was here or on another thread.

Anyway, for you gin drinkers in the US, if you can find this stuff

I'll be there in August of 2027

For the double oaked bourbon fans who REALLY like wood aroma and flavor, I can heartily recommend Garrison Brothers Balmorhea. I had been looking for a long time and finally stumbled onto a bottle in Dublin, GA. It is fresh post oak strong; like sawing, splitting and stacking strong- something I really enjoy. Sometimes I'll have a single dram to start the day, then move onto something else as a sipper. Today is final appreciation day for this bottle.

@Rare Breed I wanted to say I received and am thoroughly enjoying my Westley Richards hip flask!

I picked up my wife’s favorite brand. They also had some signed bottles of Michter’s, but I wasn’t trying to go on a spending spree.

Are those 1792 store picks better than the normal stuff? I got a bottle of BiB and thought it was extremely average.

A couple of years back we toured Scotland. We flew into Edinburgh, checked into the hotel which was just off the Royal Mile. We headed up the street for drinks and dinner. Our first stop was the Abernach. They had 300 whiskeys in stock. I looked at my wife and asked her why do I need to see any more of Scottland?
Whiskeys!
Tomatin
Craginmore
The Singleton
All nice whiskeys.
Favorite Bourbon would be Bookers.
So many good bourbons and whiskeys, just not enough time to enjoy them all.

This is what's actually in the flask today, and it's a good follow-up to the Balmorhea; it stands tall with its ABV but it's sweeter and more refined due to its blending. Barrell always does a good job but Batch 032 is a favorite; it came out three years ago and I found a couple of bottles in Owensboro, KY over the holidays- had to pick them up. I prefer their Batch bourbons to the standards they make; just one example: I love rye, but their Seagrass falls short compared to almost everything else I've ever tried.

Sipping a single malt tonight, Mercury from Yellow Hammer Brewing. Nothing special just a local whiskey that is pretty good.

View attachment 739618I’ve slowed the collecting down, but people might appreciate some of it.
I appreciate your KC store pick, that Maker's Private, and the Green River Full Proof. I was in Owensboro, home of the distillery, over the holidays and picked up a Full Proof and a Rye; good value and very satisfying. I have a local that did a Maker's in a 4-4-1-1-0 selection that is really good.

Not the best bottle of 1792 I’ve had, but unique enough to try for $39. I had one of their upper tier versions that tasted like peanut butter and jelly (jam for the Brits), but in a good way. I also had one that was phenomenal, but I can’t remember what they were.

That makers is honestly one of the best I’ve ever hard. The green river stuff is very good as well. I’m glad we finally started getting distribution on it.

I need to pick up a new bottle of the makers. I can’t remember what the recipe was but I think something very similar to that. I’ll have to look and reply. I’m running low and that’s my go-to first pour when I’m hunting/fishing and so it gets some use

Here's a couple odd ones. The Inclusion bottle, by Divine Spirits, I was not sure about, found on clearance at a store in Somerset, KY for $9 per or 2 for $15. It is actually a really decent bottle! Wish I had bought a case. Odd label but good juice. The Walking Dead bottle from my son in law, reputed to be 7-year

I'm telling you just about anyone can get their hands on some bourbon and put a label on it. I've found a few rare instances where this doesn't hit the flavor and/or value mark, but it's fun to have some oddballs in your hip pocket.

Speaking of hip pocket, tonight I'm enjoying a flask of Hemingway Signature Rye. I hadn't heard of it when I found it, but couldn't pass it up because of the branding (and I like rye- except for the chintzy Hobby Lobby glue on R-Y-E letters). Found out later the First Edition (now out of 'print') was a smash hit. This second edition Signature is fabulous and crushable. I'll buy Hemingway again when I see it, no brainer. (And check out Papa on the back label)

Love the flask! Looks way more manly than my Stanley I received for Christmas!

It's a Westley Richards 8oz pewter flask in their sewed dark tan leather. I've always wanted a traditional flask and theirs is the best I've ever found. Had to order one. In your case, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Several years ago, I bought myself a Louis Vuitton card holder. Before I could really start using it, my daughter bought me a card holder with my initials on it. I gave the Louis to my mom and have been using baby girl's gift ever since. Love it, wouldn't trade it, does everything I want in a wallet.

PS... how could anything be more manly than Stanley? Here's my grandaddy's thermos that's still rockin' no problem. Fill that thang and be proud man!

Well the odd label is actually pretty cool. Here's a snippet of what their labeling is all about.

Tracey Jacobs, President of Inclusion Bourbon, told WAVE, "I wanted to do a product in the state of Kentucky dedicated to the deaf and hard of hearing."

The Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing reports that nearly 700,000 Kentuckians, or 16 percent, are deaf or hard of hearing. The Indiana Association of Deaf advocates for over 400,000 deaf and hard of hearing individuals in Indiana.

Jacobs explained the significance of the product, telling the station, "It's the very first bottle to have sign language, ASL, American Sign Language on a bottle, and the sign on the bottle means include me. Our bourbon with the ASL sign language on it is historical, because there's never been sign language on any product other than medical devices."

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
Impala cull hunt for camp meat!
