Whisky appreciation

Great things come in pairs, got absolutely nothing at a big Kroger drop in northern Kentucky this weekend, Ohio dropped OWA 107 and EH Taylor Barrel Proof plus had a surprise drop today at 6 pm for Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, Weller CYPB and Full Proof as top bottles, thrilled that my brother and I snagged the Birthday Bourbons. Thank you, went from owning 0 to owning 2 in a 4 hour wait outside a liquor store! Other stores had Russells Reserve Single Rickhouse, Wild Turkey Beacon, Eagle Rare store pick, etc. Pretty happy now after missing out on Pappy and BTAC in the Kentucky lottery!

Trust me you did GOOD! That Birthday Bourbon makes it all worth it!
I’ve tried hard for some this year and struck out! I’ll have to be happy with the Pappy lol

This Birthday Bourbon is a consolation prize for not getting a Pappy, would rather have your bottle!

I’d take the Birthday over a 10yr but obviously not the 20yr! That would just be silly lol

For all the DFW members…

My buddy, Norm Hooten, of Hooten & Young will be at Goody Goody in Fort Worth tomorrow between 4-7pm doing a bottle signing.

If the name doesn’t ring any bells for you, the character “Hoot”, played by Eric Bana in Blackhawk Down is Norm in real life… he’s a retired MSG that spent his entire career in SOF (most of it in Delta)..

Granted, I’m biased… Norm is a personal friend… but in all honesty, H&Y 12 year is an absolutely stellar whiskey… smooth as silk.. truly wonderful caramel and apple notes on the finish… it’s one of my favorite whiskeys on earth (and I generally prefer Irish over bourbons)…

Anyway, Blackhawk Down is what Norm is primarily “famous” for.. but his exploits go much, much further… he is a no shit real hero, both on and off the battlefield.. he’s a true patriot, loves this country more than anything else, and is genuinely a great guy that is incredibly humble to be so accomplished..

Not only is H&Y one of my favorite whiskeys, Norm is one of my favorite people… always a pleasure to be around..

Google his name and spend a few minutes listening to a pod cast (he’s done several), or read a few of the stories (there are a few online)… then, if interested, head to Ft Worth and grab a bottle… I think it would be well worth your time and effort..

I’m planning on being there sometime between 6-7pm… if you’re there at the same time, I won’t be hard to identify.. just look for the guy that looks like a rapidly balding sasquatch lurking around… that will be me :)

I was given this certificate from a George T Stagg box (3 bottles in a case), found this interesting and wanted to share it. I never knew these were included.

Poked around Louisville and Bardstown this weekend, bought the Lot B and Thomas Handy, cash helped rather than using CC. Traded for the others. Bourbon season is slowing down. I did win a Stagg Jr in a lottery for some consolation also.

A buddy of mine just dropped this off to me for Christmas. Never tried it before.

You should try their rye.

Not much of a rye guy my own self, but their rye is so good it made my eyes leak for the sheer joy just a little bit

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
