Hunting reports

Gentleman my wife and I are headed to C10 on June 30 for Leopard and Buffalo. My daughter is going to join us for the first week for Buffalo and Plains game. She will travel with us on the way down, hunt 7 days and come home. I am taking 416 Rigby for Buffalo etc and 300 WM for Leopard and whatever else she gives us. We will likely hunt the flood plains of Marromeau together (she handles 416 fine) but obviously the Leopard is my primary target. Question: is traveling with 3 guns any more difficult than 2? I want my wife to shoot most of the bait for the Leopard hunt and she kinda wants to kill a Baboon and Hyena (she still pissed at them from Lion King so if she wants to kill Whoopi thats damn sure fine w me). Since daughter will hunt plains separate from us alot kinda torn tween rifles she knows and shootin a “camp gun”. Thots?

I’m curious on this as I know most PM’s es they can only have a max ownership of 4 guns total unless they’re a guide. So I’m curious how they look at it as a hunter once you go over 2.
2 used to be the norm to get a big bore and a smaller bore so they are used to that one. I’m sure someone has brought a few more before and will know.

Put two in your name on 4457 and one in wife’s ? Will make it simpler for paperwork and less issues. I have taken 3 rifles several times but this was South Africa only. Only taking 2 this year to Mozambique

There's nothing wrong with having your wife's name on the 4457.

As others have suggested, I’d put one rifle in your wife’s name. Traveling with 3 rifles generally isn’t a problem but 11 lbs of ammunition per person including case can be. It adds up faster than you think especially with cartridges like 416 Rigby. Two names allows you two cases up to 11 lbs each, so no rationing ammo.

I know the 5 kg/11 lbs gets discussed a lot here whether it’s ammo only or ammo plus case, but I see now Delta airlines defines it as 5 kg ammo including case on their website.

Yeah, put one in your wife's name, in its own case. Problem solved, but it will be a bit bulky on the luggage side, of course.

I agree with @375Fox the issue would be ammo weight. If wife has a rifle in her name no problem

Looking forward to a hunt report. Coutada 10 could be my favorite place on earth.

I would do as others have said, put one of the rifles in your wife’s name and pack your patience in the Beira airport. They counted every round of ammunition I had, but it only took them 30 minutes to do it!

Thanks men, taking all this under advisement!!!! I will provide a report!

Of course I realize now I have already rec'd my invitation letter from Marromeu which naturally shows the two rifles and ammo that I informed them I was bringing a month ago. That invite letter has already gone to Debbie and she is working on the temp Visas (altho we can wait and do those in Beira). You know last trip to Moz in 23, Russ sent all my info to Moz Authorities on rifle (I only had 416 w 40 rounds) and had his copy. When we went in to the police station at Zumbo the form they had which came from the government did not match the copy Russ had from when he sent it in. It only showed 20 rounds of ammo. So Police chief confiscates 20 rounds says he was gonna "hold them" until I left. Fortunately the rifle was still on and I only used 7 rounds. When we left and went through police station at Zumbo the chief was nowhere to be found neither was my ammo. Russ wanted to stay and fight and get the ammo back! By that time, I just lettem keep them. All this to say, I am checking with Linda to see what camp guns are available!!!

It's a little more hassle, but not a deal-breaker if you're organized. Most airlines cap you at two firearms per person in one case anyway (check your carrier hard,Delta, United, etc., have their quirks). A good aluminum double rifle case (like Pelican or similar, under 50 lbs total) handles two easily. For the third, you often end up with a separate case or creative packing, which means one more thing to declare, one more form, and one more potential customs conversation.

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
