What country is the best to hunt free range roan. I see alot about Sable but not much on roan.

I don’t know the current political situation ( terrorism) but Burkina Fasso was the most affordable.

I believe all hunting has been shut down due to the terrorists. If not, I'm quite certain I wouldn't want to hunt there at the moment.

I believe Andrew Baldry hunts them in Kafue - Zambia.

The Southern Roan is indeed hunted in Zambia, and Andrew would be a perfect choice. There are also limited quotas in the Caprivi of Namibia for free range animals. The Eastern Roan is available in Tanzania.

Mozambique has quite a few but they are protected as they are in Zim.

And of course you can hunt the Western Roan in Cameroon, Burkino Faso, etc. Might want to bring along a light infantry fire team for the latter location. :W Ak47:

Hi, we sell Roan safari (you can check all our pictures on our page). If you are interested do not hesitate to send me a message. Security is not a problem in Cameroon. Regards, Romain

Roan can be hunted in Zimbabwe now. They are under a special permit and limited starting in 2019. I will be hunting one next week.

I think Sable and Roan would make an interesting safari. Just never seen much about the Roan I do know there offered in South Africa but most likely not free range.

Excellent news. Best of luck!

So for both Zambia may be the bet bet
You could combine sable and roan in any of the 3 countries Namibia Caprivi, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. I’m going on a buffalo/sable/roan combo hunt next week in Zimbabwe. The price is significantly better than I would expect in Zambia or Caprivi. It price isn’t a factor, I think Zambia would give you best hunt. I hunted lunga lushwishi gma in kafue 15 years ago and we saw good roan and great sable and a huge amount of other plains game and also lions and elephants.

I saw boat loads of them in Cameroon but they are classed as class A. I took a buff and lord derby and you are only allowed two.

You can do a reasonably affordable Savannah Buffalo and Roan in really good areas that have Lord Derby Eland if you don’t want a LDE!

Lots of good interesting plains game and harnessed bushbuck, the king of the bushbucks!

I saw plenty of Roan in Cameroon earlier this year, so many I was campaigning to get one for camp meat!!! (no such luck - the concession owner said the meat was the best for that) but you could hunt Lord Derby and Roan on one license. The other choice is to buy two licenses, and get Savannah buffalo and Bushbuck. If Roan was my target species, other places mentioned already would be my first choice

I hunted and shot an old broomed down roan in Zambia this year with Johnny Duplooys- excellent hunt- we saw roan daily- a small tree caused me to not get a shot at a 29”+, but i really liked the old one i shot

Took this one in July in Muchinga, Zambia with Johnny DuPlooy.
