I live in South Africa and inherited a Model 70 W in 22 Hornet. Serial number 8795.
Our late father had a 4 x J4 Weaver scope with a 3/4" tube mounted. With a post reticle. On Weaver pivot mounts.
I was much younger when I sighted this in. To suit my shooting. Once only.
I owned this golden combination for 53 years. And NEVER again adjusted the sighting. A single click. Any way.
While shooting off 2 or 3,000 rounds during this period. I reloaded as well and can not give an accurate account.
The swivel action must have been operated a few hundred times. Because the iron sights were hand-filed to perfection and I preferred this when young.
And shot the biggest kudu of all with this rifle. When I was 13 years of age. Point blank. In full flight. It fled for someone else and only in the nick of time swerved to miss me. A sweeping shot. In the lungs. So close. And I mean close. That I could not miss. With. I think. A brake mark in my shorts.

Later on I purchased a Tikka 30-06. Naturally with the same shoes. A post reticle. Only time with a 1" tube.
Only once during surely forty was it required do readjustment after someone, unbeknown to me, bashed the scope so hard that the metal tube was dented.

For my usage. And the availability of open sights. In an instant. And on recoil probably up to 9,3 x 62. For speed and reliability.
It's equal has yet to be designed. Fullstop.

Many thanks. Mr. W. R. Weaver.

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
