Wanted Ruger No.1

Tango’s post indicates a a good price on a #1. I’ve owned a few and if I didn’t have other wants to pay for, I’d grab a couple more.
some people find them to be temperamental in the accuracy department, but every one I’ve owned, including a .458 Lott, gave sub inch accuracy.
grab a #1… you won’t be disappointed.

One problem I have with Gun Broker is that they are now charging sales tax on pretty much all sales, even though as noted above they are only middlemen - same applies for ebay. I am aware of the SCOTUS decision on charging sale tax for online sales, but I believe that decision applies only to large online stores like Midway. So far, Guns International does not do that because the site is merely a listing source for dealers and individuals. All transactions go through the seller, not GI - Smart!

I'm pretty open on the caliber. I can always use a nice deer /coyote/plains game rifle or I could totally justify a fun to shoot, maybe I'll kill a buffalo with a single shot rifle big bore.
I have a 300 H&H and a 450/400. Both in like new condition. Both are excellent rifles and I have around $1800 each in them. So that's probably the going rate for like new condition No 1 rifles.

I have got to research this 450/400. It sounds like an interesting caliber. Although a 300 H&H would also be really neat. I need to check on the reloading components and dies For then450/400. Also if any body makes factory ammo for it or at least how available brass and dies are.

450/400 is a 400gr .411 caliber bullet at 2050 fps. Hornady makes factory ammo and brass. Not too bad to find ammo for. I have 6 boxes of factory loads on hand that I bought not long ago. Plus there are several manufacturers that make .411 bullets.

@Backyardsniper, where are you in Kentucky? I live in Kentucky too and I have 3 #1's I'd be willing to sell. 24" 30-06 (rare, most are 22"), 475 Linebaugh (also shoots 480 Ruger) and 460S&W (also shoots 45Colt & 454C). Factory ammo, dies, and brass (mostly new unfired) available too. PM if interested.

Totally agree. They're not sniper rifles, but mine have all been MoA type rifles once the right load was found. The 7x57s definitely like the heavy bullets (175gr Partitions) but the 300 H&H will shoot anything well.

I own a 30-06 #1-A model and a custom stocked 300 WM. I really like the -06 a lot, though I honestly haven't shot the 300 yet. Too much other stuff going at the moment and it needs a new butt pad before I'll squeeze the trigger, the old one is quite hard. I got the 30-06 at Cabela's 4-5 years ago when they had probably 6-8 in the gun library. They actually told that they wouldn't be carrying them anymore, they didn't turn over fast enough. The other was a GunBroker buy and I had no issues at all. Admittedly, the seller was a gun shop who did a fair anount of business there, so they weren't likely to do anything hinky.

The Ruger website shows they have three models as Lipsey's dealer exclusives. The 257 Weatherby with a 28 inch barrel and a regular sporter forend catches my eye. They also have a 275 Rigby (7x57) and a 6.5 Creedmoor. Might be something to chat with your local gun shop about.

I've been drooling over that .257 Weatherby cambering for a while now.

Is that a 450/400 3" or 3-1/4" I'm just trying to see if I can find brass
3". Right now everything is hard to find, but hopefully things will even out one day soon. If you buy one, get a NECG peep sight for it. That's what I have on mine, and it's amazing how well you can shoot it compared to the factory open sights.

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
