The Bushman Bag

If we can learn anything from the Bushman it's the bare necessities of the hunting kit… obviously before guns came along!

A simple animal bag, made of a Steenbok or Duiker, with the head removed, the antelope is skinned in one piece, the legs are then tied together to created the cross body strap.

Containing the bare necessities… A walking stick, a tool to tend the fire and do the cooking like a flat spatula, the fire starter starting sticks, an axe, a spear, a bow, a quiver made from pealed bark, arrows and a container to hold the poison they coat their arrows in… This and an Ostrich egg canteen is all they need. Certainly we have improved upon these basics but the fundamentals are still there.

Evidently my wife is right - I am apparently resistant to evolution.

Because, I'd rather possess that bag and its contents than I would some Major League baseball signed by any or all of the big sports "heros" that ever stepped up to the place.

Or name your game and memorabilia - I'd still rather have that small pile of Hunter-Gatherer's accoutrements - no question.

My San hunting set is certainly one of my prize possessions. Hands down.

Oh yeah, when I hunt I pare it down to just a truck and one trailer...kinda the same idea. I keep my knife on my belt too. The similarities are amazing!
