I am about to run some specials on our Tanzania buffalo hunts that will be valid at Vegas SCI. we are in booth 3985 - if anyone is interested in a big buffalo in the best country in Africa give us a call in advance or see me at the show.

I am not going to let the price get in the way...even though TZ is expensive we will make it work. It is the best free range - big game experience on earth! We have 40 or so on quota so I need some serious hunters...

I've never hunted in africa and can't say what I'd do there. Know it takes nerves to stand and shoot. It sounds like a good thrill for sure I know the black bear that charged me was a rush and I was able to hit it with my 44 mag at 10 yards had another bear charge me after a shot from my rifle that ended in me putting a sec round in it at 35yards. But I can't imagine something like a buffalo.

You have to give the client big time kudos. That's not easy to do when black death is yards away.

You said the animal moved...but then said he was well hit.

Did a well hit animal really absorb all this additional punishment through a charge, or was the heart missed, etc?

Just wondering about the actual, final facts on the first shot, now that an autopsy was possible.

People can’t understand why they just don’t tip over.....
I’ve heard stories of dozens of hunters say that their bull didn’t go 10 feet after their shot....almost like bragging.
I’m here to say, even the best shots on those animals, a strong percentage can take every bit of it.... they are all different.

Yours is a story that I just want to read about. Were both you and your client were using double barreled rifles? I concur with the previous comment about the "brown stained shorts." Taking a charge from a wounded Buffalo beginning 27 yards with you having to reload and fire with your client firing two shots as well means that both of you have a "pair."

I think this is the most exciting and or best hunting story I've read on AH since joining a year and a half ago.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the question. The clients shot was well in the normal kill zone. It should have died after 100 yards or so. Even though it moved at the initial shot we were close, and it was hit through the lung area with the clients well placed shot first shot.
The moving animal may have sharpened the angle into the ribs?...I dont know. What I do know is that the bullet dented in at the tip. This caused it to simple poke through both lungs. It was a high as well.
The failed expansion lengthened the time before expiration of this buffalo and thus his pissed off attitude when we showed up!
It wasnt like we ran straight after him. If the first bullet performed as it shouldve he would have been too weak to charge us the way he did.

Which type of bullet was being used? I have seen some TSX that didn't open that my PH showed me in Namibia.

He is a huge fan of the swift A frame on the buffalo.
