thinking about a Buff or Hippo dry land hunt along with a few plains game. I do not see much about hunting there and wonder if anyone has recent or not so recent info. Looking for info on best flights, gun import, visa's. Just about anything you might be able to share would be great. thank you very much

You do the visa yourself on the computer. Your outfitter handles your rifle permit. Most routes go through Europe or the Middle East, but plenty of options. Have to done much research into pricing? Tanzania is the most expensive country in Africa to hunt. That’s generally why it’s not discussed here as often as other countries. There are some better deals but you really have to search them out. Most 10 day buffalo hunts will be in the $25k-$30k daily rate range plus trophy fees.

My daughter and I are hunting in August on 14 day licenses natron area out of Arusha. Hunting plains game. Flying Atlanta, Doha, to Arusha. We’re hunting with Robin Hurt. We talked to Tom Dreyer at the 2025 SCI show he had an amazing deal on 4 Buffalo in Tanzania. $16K plus trophy fees if my memory serves me. This will be our first trip to Tanzania so I don’t have any first hand experience to give you yet. Robin Hurt is doing the gun permits and we are using Gracy travel and they’re doing the visas.

My son and I are going in 2027. Happy to share info. I tried to send you a direct message (DM) but maybe you don’t have it turned on in your profile?

No worries. Perhaps there are sponsors here that outfit in Tanzania but I don’t know of any besides Nathan Askew with Bullet Safaris. Nathan does a great job and I hunted with him in 2017 and hope to again. This time, my son is hunting with Mike Angelides of Safari Royal.

First of all you need to see the price list, choose the number of days, area to hunt, and species. It is pretty much a $100,000 hunt and most in the fees and daily rates.
I hunted on a 10 day PG special with Michelle Mantheakis and that is the only way I could do it financially. It’s high.
Please let us know what you decide and book

thanks guys for the info, I have been looking at prices and Tan is way out of my pocket book and to come out of retirement and get a job to save up for a hunt would take many years here in So Dakota due to lower wages where I live. will have to look at other areas other than So Africa and the East Cape as I have hunted there 4 times and looking for another area.

Phillip, I have to disagree with you on your $100,000 comment. I hunted in The Selous Game Reserve, block MA1/Madaba with Alan Vincent in 2023, a 16-day hunt that included 3-buffalo, dry land hippo, croc, leopard and plains game plus my son as a companion hunter for 10 of those days and my total cost was nowhere near $100,000. As I recall my cost was under $70,000 all-in. Now, Masailand with Michel Mantheakis I can see approaching the cost you mention but his Masailand hunts are not representative of many other Tanzania options. Very excellent, but you pay for it.

If someone wants a dry land hippo, going with one of the operations in The Selous will be among your very best options. For whatever reason, hippos in the Selous are regularly encountered in the forest, more so than in most other parts of Africa.

…and a true dry land hippo hunt is a very exciting and great hunt. Doing it again with my son & Alan Vincent in 2028, can’t wait.

Good to know and I agree on the hippo on land!

Zimbabwe is a great and cheaper option. @DALTON & YORK SAFARIS is good option.

Hyde,

As you've found out Tanzania is very spendy. The best deal for what you are looking for will be in Zimbabwe or Zambia. These hunts are not cheap but far less expensive than Tanzania.

A travel agent that specializes in travel to Africa with guns can help with gun permits, visa etc.

Good luck!

Mark
