Suppressors on DG Rifles?

Two ways to go when suppressing a rifle.
The traditional thread on the end of the barrel.
The Reflex or back over the barrel method.

Both most likely require removing thr front sight to have the barrel threaded. Unless you are using a Ruger Hawkeye, Blasser or another factory threaded barrel.

The back over the barrel requires no front sight or a removable front sight.
1st picture.
My buddy used an AB suppressor Raptor 10 on his Blasser in 375 H&H. This was a reflex suppressor.
2nd picture.
Another friend used a Hybrid 46M on his Ruger in 375 Ruger. A traditional thread on the end of the barrel.

The first picture looks like a rifle of manageable length (an R8 buys you 3.5 inches or so), but the lower one looks like a boat rod. I have a suppressor on a 6.5x54 R8 Barrel for stand hunting deer and it is manageable. But I recently used a suppressed .300 Win Mag in Hungary for roe deer. Yes it was "pleasant" to shoot, but it was also like trying to maneuver a revolutionary war musket through the thick stuff. I can't imagine using one on a DG rifle.

With respect to DG, I also like access to my open sights if things go sideways on a follow-up.

Only disadvantage i see is a suppressor makes the gun longer and thus harder to get through dense bush.

Otherwise i think its a great idea. Ive often dreamed of a shorter barreled 458 Lott with a suppressor. Something like a 16-18 inch barrel would reduce problems caused by length.

I don't load for the 458 Lott, but in many calibers when you bob the barrel short to get the weapon well-balanced with a suppressor, you cannot achieve enough velocity. I would make sure that a powder exists that will burn completely in the first 16" before I'd start cutting down the barrel.

For the OP, I'm not a suppressor guy per se, but I understand their utility. If your desire is driven by recoil management, there are some alternative ways to make your medium bore rifle a joy to shoot while maintaining lethality. Obviously if you're seeking stealth and shooting subsonic ammo, that's a totally different reason for a suppressor.

we cut down all our rifles with suppressors on, also get a suppressor that has removable segments, thus allowing you to not add much length but still get some if not all sound and recoil suppressed
also get a suppressor that fits "over" the end of the barrel not just screwing on the end, so the full length of suppressor is not "added" to the full length of barrel
eg the atec suppressors are very good and have segments
take a 22'' barrel, cut off 4'', suppressor is mayber 6 or 7'' and it overlaps barrel by 2'' u only adding 1 or 2 inches, remove 1 segment of suppressor and u back to original length

note: do your homework on performance and balistics first before just shortening barrels

regards
personally i dont like the look of suppressors, and i hate a very long gun
i am a traditionalist when it comes to rifles, wood stock and good looking.
but....i have come to appreciate hearing the "repor" , the sound of impact, this gives us as ph a lot of info
and a lot of times it helps the hunter shoot better

The Hybrid 46 ended up adding about 8”s to the rifle, which has a 20” barrel. So about 4”s longer than my 24” African model. A bit unwieldy but it worked for him.

I've used a PH's .375 H&H with a suppressor for a kudu and giraffe. It's pretty pleasant to shoot, but the aesthetics and handling of a traditional DG rifle are compromised, no doubt. I probably don't need one on my own DG rifle.

A friend's dad had a dream to hunt buffalo, but wasn't exactly a spring chicken any more. He did an East Cape farm hunt with a suppressed .375 and it all worked out pretty well.

I’m using the SilencerCo 46M in the short version with my 22” barrel on my 375 H&H with no problems.

My r8 22" 375 with a 7" ab raptor 10 was shorter in OAL than my ph's cz 550 by almost an inch.
Total length gain is 3"
Shoots a 270 gr tsx at 7/8" at 200 yds.

Feels like a stiff 30-06 in action. Really helps with rapid follow-up.

Highly recommend.

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
