I’m getting ready to leave for a trip to Mozambique. I can find plenty of info on SA and suppressors but nothing on Mozambique. Has anyone taken suppressors here? Is it legal?

In the very beginning I asked the operator and he just said don’t mess with it. In communication with the PH I’ll be hunting with he had expressed he would love for me to bring it, which obviously I would love to as well. Obviously going through SA isn’t an issue at all. I have an email in the operator.

South Africa and Namibia are the only two countries where suppressors are legal. Most other African countries they are illegal. There was an argument on this a few months ago. Mozambique is apparently not clearly written legal or illegal. People do apparently successfully bring suppressors there. A South African PH is much more likely to say bring one than a Zimbabwe PH because of rules in their home countries. However, if you look at recent events in Mozambique and combine that with corruption I think you are asking for a potential problem you don’t need. Save the suppressor for South Africa or Namibia where it’s clearly written as legal.

This reminds me,

That gentleman who wrote a report on here about his safari in the Selous area of Tanzania - and he brought a suppressor and used it the whole trip.

How the heck? TIA….

Google AI says it is legal for foreigners to hunt with a suppressor in Tanzania. With the correct paperwork and prior authorization it seems doable. Mozambique is a grey area. Without prior written authorization I would not take the risk.

Phrase it differently and you’ll get a different answer. It’s not a reputable source yet. Even more interesting Google AI pulls answers from discussions on AH listed as one of sources at bottom. I was told while hunting there suppressors are fully illegal in Tanzania.

That was my first phrasing. When I added "for foreigners" it suggested it was possible. But I still would ask prior written authorization in any case involving a firearms or in this case suppressor.
Better safe than sorry. And like you said the AI is not reliable in these situations.

Lol exactly-

my friends tried to bring them on their multiple person FULL bag safari in TZ. The Indian / Tanzanian operator is very wealthy and can pull strings/has political power.

Even he could not make it possible for them to bring them.

That’s why I was so shocked at the selous 10 day hunt buff report. An American had brought his and posted pictures here to prove it! Just weeks after my friends tried
