Spent most of the day on Delta flight 200. The flight was much more comfortable then I expected it to be. The small investment in Economy Comfort was well worth it, the additional leg room and recline distance made a difference, plus having the alcohol included wasn’t bad eitherJ. I was able to sleep quite a bit during the flight the meals provided were also better than expected.
We had to return to the gate to let a passenger off that had been notified of a family emergency. Even with this, we ended up in Joburg only 10 minutes late, thanks to a nice tail wind most of the trip.
The arrival in Africa was uneventful. Getting through passport control took approximately 20 minutes, just due to volume and once at the SAPS office, it took less than 5 minutes and most of that time was me unlocking my gun case. Thank you Afton Guest house for the pre-approved rifle permit!
The ride to the Afton took about 15 minutes and there were 2 other hunters along for the ride. We were all hunting multiple locations but with different outfitters. I had the opportunity to meet a few of the people I had dealt with over the last year at the Afton. Annelise and Tina have been unbelievably helpful during this time and it was nice to meet and thank them in person. I was able to have a great steak dinner that they provide the guests for $25.00. After this, sleep came easy and I slept well, for 5.5 hours.
Stay tuned, more to follow in the coming days.
Regards,
Mike
