Anyone going to SHOT? I welcome the opportunity to connect with anyone else in the industry while I am there next week.

Feel free to reply or direct message.

I won’t be there but if you make it over to the Weatherby booth, let us know what you think of the new Capra rifle please!

Same floor as me. I usually do my floor walk on Thursday.

Anything particular you want pointed out? Fit and finish, balance, smooth bolt, etc.

I will be there as media and helping some with NRA business.

They handed me a 4lb rifle! If you are looking for a super light mountain rifle you should check it out. That weight is with a steel barrel as well. Goid caliber selection.

Good fit and finish.

I won't be there, but if there is anything way I could ask a favor of you (or someone going) to pick me up whatever literature is available from Lyman on their new line of suppressors, Id happily cover postage to mail it to me. Im most curious about vendors and expected availability dates, plus dB ratings would be good info.

Any new products that are AfricaHunting worthy?
Nightforce NX6 1-6x24

2nd focal plane, duplex reticle, capped dials, daylight bright center illumination. 4” of eye relief, $1500 price point, Nightforce durability.

Not really for the AfricaHunting side but also:

ZCO 4-20 HUNT version. 30oz, ZCO glass, single rev 11 mil turret, I believe it’s capped windage. Price point as of yet unknown, but don’t expect a bargain from ZCO.

As others stated, Weatherby Capra rifle. 4.1 pounds, that thing has to be wild to hold. They say recoil isn’t bad, but remember those guys grew up shooting 30-378 wby and don’t think it has too much recoil.

RCBS match master precision case trimmer.

Few other things interesting but those were the main ones for me.

I recall talking privately to a well known outdoors writer five or six years ago about SHOT show. He said it's sickening how it's become overrun with technocrap, door-crasher guns/gear, and preppy shit. He wished that end of the "business" would move to another venue. Hunting related stuff was only a miniscule part of the show. There were lots of complaints. Maybe it's changed? He really hated having to test and write reviews on that garbage. Some of it was beyond bizarre. Anyone remember the 4-barrelled pump "home defense" shogun? Forget who made that goofy thing. Mossberg?

Yes sir! Seems like a winner for a backcountry gun. Currently using a Seekins element but that Weatherby would shave another 1.5lbs off my pack.

How’s the trigger? Bolt lift and throw smooth?

Bolt was "fine." I dont think anyone would work the bolt and find that the point to call out, but smooth and not sloppy at all.

I did not try the trigger.

Yes that new Nightforce 1-6 looks promising. At 10.2" length it's a bit short for a magnum action but I think it would just barely fit, but it has 4" eye relief so I think it could work for some users depending on how far back you like a scope to be.

I don't think I've seen the four barrel shotgun. I tried one of the three barrels at a public range in Salt Lake City once for fun. Some Turkish brand I think.

From what I could tell it should work fine for me and where I like my scopes mounted, ymmv and all that, but should be a huge upgrade over the 1-8 that’s only 8.7” long and would basically need an uncomfortably short LOP to use on a long action, and actually impossible to mount on a magnum action without an ugly full pic rail.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
