SCI convention

Do you get a special price if you book at the convention? Or is it just a benefit of seeing the outfitter in person?
Just the benefit of seeing the outfitter in person. No deals at the convention. Maybe in a month of two deals will pop up for unsold quota but people are still making buying decisions for 30 days after the convention. It is a good opportunity to look at hunts for the upcoming years. Meeting the PH and figuring out how you “click” with him is a very important element considering you will be spending 17-18 hours with that person for a week to 21 days. The ph can certainly make or break the safari experience.

I went to my first SCI this past weekend with the intention of finalizing 2027 safari plans for me and my son. I spoke to several outfitters and several I did not get a chance to meet and work got in the way of the AH dinner, so I regretfully missed meeting a lot of you in person. However, one mission was accomplished in that I did book a buff and PG hunt for us with Jamy Traut at his Caprivi camp in 2027.

Also, I handled a few used doubles at the Heym and Rigby booths...but I decided to add another buffalo and a sable to the quota for our 2027 Namibia hunt instead. It might be the only chance we get to do a father / son safari, so lets go for it!

I was fortunate enough to hunt Africa 3 times with my father, I'll always cherish those memories!! Really wonderful you and your son are making these plans!! Take plenty of pictures of you two together while on safari!

I love that you are buying more with your son and making memories around that. Fantastic.

I got a 10% Discount on my Spain hunt from booking at the show….

Concur! Nicole is who we'll be calling at Gracy for all future needs..
Same she’ll be handling mine as well from now on.

I showed my buddy Scott my GoPro footage from the Omay, now he & his son are coming with me in 2027 to the Omay for buff & tuskless.

Scott’s wife and son wanted to come to the show as well so the 4 of us attended.

I think I’ve created a monster…. Scott hasn’t been to Africa yet but after the show he’s booked Zim 27, SA 28, Spain 28

I was in awe… the man had full knee replacement 6 weeks ago and was on a scooter.

Last thing: Our flight for today is cancelled and the soonest flight back is Wednesday. so it looks like we are hanging around Nashville for a few more days.

Karma.....You all enjoyed SCI too much.
Now you all need to relax and enjoy what Nashville has to offer by enjoying the: sights, sounds, food, and entertainment for one more day/night.

TIN (This Is Nashville)......

Did anyone buy a rifle?
I bought a pair shorts. Shorts! From Rigby! And have to at least partly blame you Frosty. Mister, oh hey, I know SCI is merely a week-ish away, but I know a guy you should talk to. You know I’m weak, yet you still enabled.

You know I just got back from Zim on Halloween and trying to return in barely a month, and said I’m finished, no more doubles for a while, yet you still enabled.

So ya, I bought a pair of shorts…and maybe a big elephant hunt, but no rifle.

That said, this did show up today right after getting home from Nashville…while the timing kept me a little more grounded during the show, I really can’t complain, so will say thank you as well for the introduction.

I think someone said that there is no special price at the convention. This isn't accurate as an across the board statement.

Many outfitters do offer "show specials" where they will discount hunt prices to fill their slots quickly during show season.

This isn't true for every outfitter, and very popular outfitters that are often booked 2-3 years in advance obviously have much less incentive to do something like this.

Also keep in mind that SCI and DSC aren't the only shows, and many outfitters go to many shows over a month or two timeframe.

So the answer is more accurately; it depends on the outfitter, the show, the timing, etc. But it is not uncommon to see an outfitter offer a "show special" where they might knock off 10% or $500 for a show.

I do know there are some guys walking around with serious coin on them...and maybe a briefcase full and a security guy carrying it.

You can usually find show specials from the Canada crowd, not so much from Africa.

This is what I meant in the earlier thread. Yes there will be specials in SA as well, but in the free range areas deals at the show are few and far between.
