Safari Pants

Redhead at Bass Pro. They discontinued the double stitch waistband Trailhead. I don’t like elastic waistband. All Safari green colour.

I am a veteran of the early 90s, so basic BDU pants and shorts made of them were my thing. Most of my hunts I wore Rothco BDU shorts. If you prefer pants, track some down in OD Green in whatever size fits you. Simple, straight forward, ought to work great. If you want something a tad tougher, go with Carhartt or Duluth fire hose pants. Heavy cotton duck pants are tough to beat.
+1

As a Vet of the 80's-2000's I love the Lightweight BDU pants. Plenty of pockets on the side of the thigh, not on the front where I despise pockets. Adjustable drawstring waist and leg cuff, plus plenty of belt loops and button fly, so no broken zippers in the field.

The same contractors make OD, brown, and other colors. The easiest to get are TRU-SPEC, Rothco and Propper, with Propper being my favorite. Problem is, in the Olive Drab and other hunting colors, they are often out of stock, so if you see them in your size don't hesitate.

Just make sure to find the Lightweight BDU's. The regular BDU's wear like iron, but are hot and take forever to dry. Even in the winter months in Korea, I wore the Lightweights.

Where were these on sale, Sir?
I have 2 pairs of the 5-11 pants, I got them at Bass Pro Shop, this was in 2014 so I don’t know if they carry them anymore. Seems like those big box stores are developing their own brands these days. In my opinion most are definitely not for the better.

5.11 Stryke. The only pants I wear, unless for more formal occasions. And those are damned few! Bought them in 2017 the first time and still wearing those + the ones I’ve bought since. I’m also a hunting guide here in the States. They’re not cheap, and I’m a cheapskate on clothes when I can get away with it. I wear the Strykes exclusively to their other styles. Hope this helps.

Try Kuhl Radikal pants. Best I’ve found for comfort while hunting in Africa. Certainly do a good job keeping cooler when it’s hot and they are very quiet.

Wal Mart

They make shorts also.

I wore these and both were excellent

BTW the Avedon & Colby signature shirt is more of a functional piece of equipment than a shirt. It seems like a lot but it really is excellent.

I love Kuiu pants and find them far
Superior to “cotton” pants. But look through the “weights” of the fabric, some are for hotter and some more cool temps. All are very good at dealing with moisture. The side zip vents are wonderful and they come in a variety of plain or camo options. Expensive tho-
Duluth trading company and Carhartt if you really want cotton pants-

Of currently available hunting pants: Land’s End - Knockabout Traditional Fit Cargo Pants (98% Cotton). I like these for hiking and hunting is open to semi-open terrain.

For brush busting pants I like Pendelton Field Canvas Briar Pants (extra layer of heavy canvas on front and back of legs). I also still have an old pair of Cabela’s outdoor/work canvas pants from the 1990’s with double fabric on the seat and knees. Love these, sadly they are long out of production, and rarely come up on sites like eBay or Depop.

Underwear – just as important IMO. Currently use synthetic boxer briefs from ExOfficio and from Duluth Trading. In the past, I used Cabelas MTP series.

I have been using the Tru-Spec 24-7 rip-stop pants for years. I took a pair in coyote brown and OD green with me on my most recent trip. They held up just fine.

I have been wearing these in khaki as my everyday pants.

I have had 5.11 and the rip stop under armour pants. Both are nice, but to me the rip stop under armour pants were so much more comfortable than the 5.11. Have held up great as well.

These are the UA pants im referencing.

Over the years, I've bought Propper pants in a variety of styles, from lightweight rip-stop to heavy duty. I just wait until sales come along. Don't overthink this and no need to spend $$$$$$.

Duluth Trading Company Fire Hose relaxed fit cargo pants for me have worked well for several trips to the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape, SA for my hunts in March, April and July.

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
