Safari Pants

I wear cargo pants/shorts nearly all the time.

Phone in lower left. Tactical folder in lower right.
There is no way I could stand a phone flopping around in a cargo pocket. Or a knife. Good on you for using them.

There is a pocket within the pocket that keeps thing from flopping around in the pants that I wear.

My pants just aren’t that tight. Even if it was tight to the pants the phone would flop with the pants if they aren’t skin tight. Glad it works for you. I just haven’t found a cargo pants practical or comfortable.

For those of you who wear cargo pants, do you actually use the cargo pockets? I've never been able to stand having anything in them so I shy away from that style. Anything more than a facemask or light set of gloves that I put in them always feels like it is flopping around.

I use the cargo pockets constantly. I wear them every day and use them, but they are especially handy on long trips to keep some things on you that are nice to have and not have to dig around in a bag to find.

I also really like them for hunting. I'd rather have 4 pockets with one thing in each pocket than have one pocket with 4 things in it, type of deal.

The trick is to find a type that fits you well. It's a bit of a goldilocks situation. A lot of companies put the pocket too high, and it is useless because it is tight against your upper leg. A lot of companies put the cargo pocket too low and anything you put in there is flopping around and slapping just above your knee as you walk. But when you find a pair that are just right, it's incredibly handy.

When I worked at Cabelas I bought several pairs of cargo shorts and pants (at 50% off for employees). When BPS took over, they dropped a line I liked, but don't recall the model. I found an ebay seller with my size- 38x32 - new with tags and I offered $18 for both. $25 shipped. Brought 3 pairs to SA last year, very durable wear.

My EDC in cargo pants/shorts:

port top - keys & lighter (I don't smoke, just carry a Bic everyday)
starboard top - Swiss Army knife - I use it almost every day
port bottom - phone
starboard bottom - tactical folder (I use this for most of my heavy cutting)
aft port - nothing
starboard rear - wallet

4-5 o'clock - pistol

My 28 year old son continues to dress like a 2 - year old. (constantly losing everything)

He will eventually grow up...

My most favorite pairs were from Cabela's before BPS buyout. I don't recall the model of pants either. But I haven't been able to find the same ones on eBay or anywhere else. I wore out my last pair around the end of 2024 and had to find alternatives. I have still never found any I liked as much as those Cabela's ones.

I really miss Cabela's...

My least favorite gift might be a BPS gift card.

I'll carry that thing in my wallet for at least two years and never find anything that I can't get for less somewhere else.

I will finally spend it on 2 stoke outboard oil that I could have bought for half the price at Walmart.

I agree 100%.

I used to love Cabela's. I now only buy from BPS when I have to. I never really cared for BPS much before, and I like them even less now that they ruined a store I really liked.

Paul Singer was the goon who destroyed Cabela's.

Tucker Carlson explained everything about about it.

And now him, Thomas Massie, and Rand Paul are supposed to be public enemy's numbers 1-3.

Not in my book.

I think I’m going to try out some KUIUs I’m a cotton pants and shirts fan but I’ll givem a go, @Safari Dave I miss cabelas too, I just loaded up on some new with tags Serengeti ss and ls shirts

5.11 are good - their shirts too.
If you are in SA or can shop in SA Johnston Workwear make great pants and shirts - all or almost all cotton.
You want something that can stand up to thorns or can be easily repaired in camp with cotton and needle.

Same here, worked great for 10 days in Namibia. Long-sleeve ripstop cotton shirts from Bass Pro. Perfect. No need for Tag.
Sorry my spelling out - its Jonsson

I use this store - great shops in Joburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and a few others.
Very dangerous though as pop in for a t-shirt and walk out several hundred dollars lighter......

These in green or kakhi are great

Sorry - Jonsson is correct spelling

I like linen breeks with leather patches on the hard wearing areas.
Because I prefer to wear taller boots instead of short boots + gaiters.

Don't overthink..... Look at the way you hunt, where you'll be hunting, what you pack for a day hunt, and what you always carry on you. Go for utility pants that fit the weather and terrain.... That's it. I have an assortment of pants from experimenting; like most of us on this thread. I even hunted in green dress casual slacks once because all my hunting pants were....too small.
