Looking for a Magazine spring for M70 SE (.375 H&H). Anyone have any ideas to source a new spring (or perhaps one that might only need minor adjustment to fit)? Want to say rifle was manufactured in early 2000s. Haven't been able find a direct replacement.

Think I remember reading some posts here about folks swapping M70 for sturdier Mauser springs. Thought some of you folks might have ideas of where to find a spring I could make work.

I have purchased them in the past from Midwest gun works and Numrich. My .375 H&H model 70 classic has the same spring as my .300 win mag. I do a lot of messing around with model 70s and have interchanged springs between the old New Haven ones in the newer North Carolina and have not had any issues. Both of the ones I have linked below show them as being in stock at this time.

I concur regarding compatibility.

If the reason for replacing the spring is due to the bolt riding over the top of the last round in the mag, you might check and make sure the spring is positioned properly in the floorplate. I had that problem, thought the spring had just weakened with age. Got a replacement, went to install it and found the original spring was simply sitting too far forward in the floorplate, resulting in insufficient force to push the last round up. Slipped it back into place and then all was good.

Sourcing a mag spring for an early 2000s M70 SE .375 H&H is a pain since Winchester's OEMs are spotty, but you've got solid options without much fab work.

OEM style direct fit: Grab the Winchester Model 70 Long Action Magnum spring from Midwest Gun Works $15 fits .375 H&H like a glove, no adjustments needed. Numrich Gun Parts Corp has the black coated version for the same price, or eBay for pre 64 long magnum springs $20-25 that drop right in.

Mauser swap: Yeah, the forum lore's real use a standard M98 Mauser magnum spring Brownells sells 'am $35, 10% extra power option. It's sturdier, but you might need to squeeze the M70 follower slot in a vice to snug it up (takes 2 mins, no tools beyond padded jaws. Guys on AfricaHunting swear by it for .375s zero binding after.

I'd hit MGW first for plug and-play Mauser if you want bombproof. Either way, it'll feed like new.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .

I have quite a bit of 458 win mag brass, most of it new. How much are you looking for?
