Recoil lug

Is an aftermarket thicker recoil lug just something to add in a build? Or is it worth having installed in place of the factory part? The caliber of the rifle is 338 RUM. Thanks, John

Not necessary but if the gunsmith feels more comfortable with a custom one to assure (maybe easier) the job is true and plumb then not much reason not to- unless he wants a bunch of extra $ for using one PTG currently has them on sale for about $15-25. The reason for an aftermarket lug is not for resistance to recoil- it is to assist in, at least, giving the appearance of a custom, "blueprinted" job and may save some time in truing up the factory lug.
