Is an aftermarket thicker recoil lug just something to add in a build? Or is it worth having installed in place of the factory part? The caliber of the rifle is 338 RUM. Thanks, John

Not necessary but if the gunsmith feels more comfortable with a custom one to assure (maybe easier) the job is true and plumb then not much reason not to- unless he wants a bunch of extra $ for using one :) PTG currently has them on sale for about $15-25. The reason for an aftermarket lug is not for resistance to recoil- it is to assist in, at least, giving the appearance of a custom, "blueprinted" job and may save some time in truing up the factory lug.

Thanks for the info. Further research says it's a good idea. John

if you are going to true the action, do it.
otherwise don't worry.
bruce.

I'll take the Vortex scope cover you have listed in the Pay it Forward thread.
