What seems to be the shipping rate on getting your trophies back to the States.
I also have some hunts booked in Europe, how are those shipping cost these days?

Glad you posted , I am wondering my self, I have heard some pretty expensive fees lately, One fellow I know had a Cape Buffalo and 5 PG dipped and packed for the east coast of the US. Flown by turkish airlines, Cost was 6k for shipping.

I paid $4011 last November to get a crate over from Namibia. It had buff, sable, lechwe, bushbuck, nyala, oryx and baboon in it. This was from my 2022 hunt. Also paid the importer $1,639.65 for clearing the trophies in Chicago. They are all now at the Wildlife Gallery in Michigan for mounting. Definitely an expensive proposition getting trophies back home.

I don't have my numbers in front of me, but my last shipment was enough for me to stop sending stuff back. I simply don't care enough. I will take photos and keep the memories.

I am the same way. I've only been on one African hunt- the (fairly) typical beginners hunt and getting the stuff back was going to cost as much in total as the entire trip, flights included! I decided to do pictures only. I will admit at times I wish I had the skulls at least, but not for what it was going to cost. Long story short- if you feel it's too much, don't do it, but do not let it stop you from going!!

I had a single crate that shipped last year with sable, eland, blue and golden wildebeest, Nyala, zebra flatskin, and backskins for wildebeests and Nyala. From SA to Houston was $1003. I dont remember what the dip/pack cost was just the shipping.

My latest was late 2022, about $3500 for 6 mounts shipped by Turkish air.
in 2021 I had 10 mounts shipped for $4000 roughly. The only dip&pack was way back in 2014 so it’s probably irrelevant. Your shipping choices go way up if you don’t have any big 5, if you have big 5 your stuck with Turkish airlines. No domestic (US) airlines will ship them.
Being just dip&pack the crate should be manageable unless you have a bunch of animals. It’s amazing what a taxidermist can fit into a crate.

I received my crate with 10 dip and pack trophies last month.
Dip and pack at Splitting Image. $2,005
Shipping by air, Badger Cargo. $671
Hunter International Import Broker and shipping to tannery $1,665.

The shipping was definitely less expensive than expected for a 55 kg crate.

Turkish Air basically have us by the b@lls. It will become a time that I will most likely leave the trophies behind, and just take pictures. No one can take away the memories. :)

That's not bad at all. I need to dig what I paid in 2022, but I believe it was somewhere around what you paid. Where they hosed me was in the warehouse storage fees.

Yup. Been doing that for a few seasons now. That and also to prove I didn't spend all my time in a Joburg hotel bar...

I had a small crate shipped last September with 8 plains game animals, mostly skulls, tanned hides, and rugs, one shoulder mount. Paperwork and airfare from joberg to NYC was $1100 and the customs clearance and freight shipping to my door was $1200. I used Zingela in Africa and Coppersmiths in NYC .

I know what you mean. $585 of my Import Broker cost was for three days of storage. The Turkish Airlines shipping was very reasonable but their storage fees are very high.
I miss the days where you had five days of free storage. Now you only have one

To mis-quote, the late Frank Buck, I like to "BRING 'EM BACK UN-ALIVE"

I just like skulls, hides, horns, etc.

I paid approximately $4,500 to get a buffalo and baboon skin and skull from Mozambique to Atlanta, including what I paid Coppersmith in Atlanta.

I am guessing here, but I think a buff skull, bush buck skull and hide, was around 5000 all in. From dip and pack to taxidermist. Used Coppersmith in Dallas.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
