Rear Sight windage adjustment

So what the smith did was put the rifle in a support like a lead sled or similar and set up a straight edge equal distance from the bore centre and action centre and measured with a vernier to the bead and then the backsight V. There was 1/8 " difference. Then you could warranty the rifle.

Wow. I was too dense to think of checking that earlier. I don’t have a vise but I just used a small wheeler level and checked the receiver, rear sight base, and front sight base.

Hardly had any surface area to put the level on the front but they seemed to be level.

Not uncommon in my experience, at least on less expensive rifles. The question is if you can live with it on an expensive rifle. I have a .375 that is the same way, Zastava Mauser that I took great care in installing the NECG rear base, to zero it looks just about like yours with sight to the right in base. If the base was not sitting square on the top of the barrel that would look worse in my opinion. The sights are adjustable for a reason, though I do agree that the OCD part of me likes it to be centered more closely. View attachment 722907
This is a Winchester Safari Express rear sight from 1990s. I have two mounted on my 404 98 Mauser and Springfield 03A3. The one on Springfield was way off windage and I simply shimmed the base to bring the V notch closer to center. Later I moved the front sight a bit and then was able to get rid of the shim. If the OP's rear sight is screwed onto the barrel shimming could be an option. This is one reason I'm not wild about NECG express sights. 1) They are soldered on ... usually. Can't slip them off or shim the base if it's been mounted poorly. 2) front sight bead slides into the base (also typically soldered on) from the front. Can't adjust it at all. Williams front sights have beads pushed in from the side which allows them to be windage adjustable. NECG express sights look sexy old school but very much dysfunctional for adjusting.

I’ve talked to Blaser again and then called my gunsmith. Blaser said I could send them the rifle and they would shoot it. It would be out for around a month and would cost $90 to get it shipped back.

Gunsmith looked at the pics and said those shallow v sights like that can be affected by head position, how fat your face is, etc. I asked if he thought I should send it in and he said if it were his, he wouldn’t be concerned with it.

I might still try to find a ghost ring rear and then just remove that express rear sight all together.

Please advise if you know of one for the M98 Magnum. Thanks!

I couldn't bring (trust) myself to take a hammer and punch to my gun so I bought a sight pusher tool a couple of years ago. works like a charm on every gun I've tried it on.
I’m keen to know what brand your sight pusher is and from where you bought it. I can find some for handguns but none suitable for use on rear sights on rifles.
A photo would also be helpful.

Thanks

Leave it alone, 100% normal. Each load you try may shoot differently, no different than having to adjust your scope reticle,.....you think your erectors are perfectly centered?

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
