Majority of mail-in votes are Democrats and two-thirds of registered voters are Democrats so makes sense in close races for Republicans to lose once the mail-in votes are counted.

My question is. How did the 3rd place candidate that was polling at 1% the day of the election get 75% of the mail in ballots. We understand that most of the LA and California voters are Democrat, but why would 75% go to the bottom 1% candidate why not the top Democrat candidate?

It seems statistically improbable.

I’ll ask my nephew, an actuary to run the odds.

Late May Bass was just 1 point ahead of Raman and 4 points ahead of Pratt. So, that 1% polling day of election is wrong.

A UC Berkeley-LA Times poll from late May found Bass just one point ahead of Raman, and four points ahead of Pratt.
From the link above:
  • The latest UC Berkeley-L.A. Times poll in the L.A. mayor’s race has Mayor Bass at 26%, Nithya Raman at 25% and Spencer Pratt at 22% among likely voters.

It’s odd the graphs show Bass and Pratt on a normal progression. And Ramans falls out of statistical norm. She didn’t even win her own district.

To be clear, I am surprised Bass didn’t receive the spike of later mail in votes instead of the less popular candidate.

I doubt that. It most likely came from Infested cattle from Mexico. Most likely bypassing a border check point.

But it could have.
Or maybe the flies just flew across the border? Hmmm. Or maybe the larvae were carried by coyotes or ... American tourists? Nah. Musta been the illegal immigrants. Yeah, that's it.

I agree with you on that.

How things are playing out is what looks strange.

The Democratic Machine is strong in harvesting ballots. Bass and Raman should be moving up together with fewer votes for Pratt. The issue is Bass with her spot secured is trending down as well. Raman who needs the votes has gone from receiving about 20% of the vote on Election Day to 40% of the votes since Election Day. This is both odd and statistically significant.

2 more screw worm cases. 1 a calf in La Salle County (county seat Cotulla) and a dog in Andrews County

We may need to make the Red River our rinderpest fence.

Not winning her own district is telling. . The June 3-5 increase doesn’t graph well with the other two candidates.

Not good for a lot of world cup fans....

I can see how travel sucks for people in a number of countries this year.

The FIFA website was horrible. Last fall I probably spent six hours over two days trying to get into the lottery to buy tickets for a game in Dallas. The website just wouldn’t work. After a couple weeks of website issues my son n law got into the lottery but wasn’t drawn for tickets.

The website however had gone out of their way to to have a map with all of the strip clubs in the metroplex. Evidently FIFA want the fans that can figure out how to buy tickets to be entertained while in town.

How can this be the "right decision"? The guy was issued a diplomatic passport to officiate a FIFA World Cup match. Supposedly the top ranked soccer official in Africa.

The point of my post was that government subsidies for developing industries is not new concept.

SB21 replaced Alaska ACES....to further exploration and development......I understand

As a 30 year PFD recipient of a program that has paid for my son's college education, and that is on the chopping block for future generations, I also understand......

Yes, that article is defiantly biased, if it can be read between the political spin.

Solar is not popular politically with conservatives for good reason. IMO zero AG land should be given up for solar farms. If the solar industry is going to grow with taxpayer subsidies, they need to do better.

I agree with your comment above regarding the free market driving adoption. Thats how it's supposed to work.....

I was simply pointing to the fact that the oil industry didn't evolve without tax payer assistance....IMO neither will any other similar industry, including solar. I am not trying to change your mind with opposing views, just stating my own....

That said, I do believe that there is a bigger picture when it comes to energy development. Look at the history of Hydro Power.... (full disclosure I grew up at Grand Coulee Dam) LOTS of Government (taxpayer) involvement....Good or bad, that how it evolved.

It would be fun to discuss over a whiskey or two. My experience in fairly senior roles in the oil industry was that I never got a handout, but I got plenty of impediments where the government was concerned. The only time I got a government benefit was when the FTC held a fire sale. Many fortunes have been made from FTC fire sales!

Another screw worm infection discovered in Gillespie County (county seat Fredericksburg) in a goat. It will not be long before the wild hogs get them and spread them everywhere.

Diplomatic passport you mention may be the problem. Using it to get around stamps to certain countries in personal passport is probably frowned upon. I doubt being a football official is considered diplomatic in nature. American Black passport users can only use them on official business. Not personal. Perhaps a member who has had a diplomatic passport can chime in to clarify.

“A Somali embassy official in Nairobi told the BBC that Artan's diplomatic passport had been issued specifically to ease his travel after earlier visa difficulties.”

The "earlier visa difficulties" being Trump has not allowed visas to ANYONE from Somalia. The Somali govt was trying to do the best they could to get this guy here to do his job. Soccer ref is hardly a terrorist threat.

And he chose to violate diplomatic protocol as a solution….

I’ve traveled on both a US Dip passport and on a UN Lasie Passe… rule #1… you never, under any circumstances, ever, travel on your dip passport for personal reasons or for private business…

Most countries impose severe penalties if you do… like revoke your dip status, and bar you from ever entering the country again…

Doesn’t matter if he’s a soccer ref, a terrorist, or just a general jackass… the rules are in place for a reason.. and he made the conscious choice to violate them…

I suppose you believe people should be able to do anything they want however as long as they declare orange man bad first before doing it…

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
