My understanding is that the Ayatollah authorized it initially because he had a relative who wanted it, not based on any deep theological reasoning. It's just another demonstration of absolutist individual power winning out over theology, even in a theocracy.

that I didnt know... but.. it doesnt surprise me at all..

Appears all three of them are eating well.
Maybe well is not the word, too much maybe?

Today's press conference: Trump actually thinks Iranians will be happy to have all their bridges and power plants permanently destroyed in exchange for "freedom." Really? That's what freedom is? And he really believes that nonsense. I doubt there are many Iranians who are buying it. The guy is completely out of touch with reality. If he pulls that stunt tomorrow, he will alienate everyone in the Middle East ... not to mention the rest of the world. Except maybe Israel. He will just add to their headaches ... which maybe they deserve to some extent. Jihads will be coming from all directions. Someone's gotta stop him before he makes a mess that no one will ever be able to sort out.

Seems the upper echelons of US military has some recent vacancies. Guess we know why. Hopefully someone new in charge will still have enough integrity to disobey those kinds of orders. Might be debatable if constitutionally illegal but certainly breach of international law.

Just when I thought it couldn't get worse. Can hardly wait to see how much my investments fall tomorrow. Gas should easily jump $5/gallon. Didn't I see where he's having his face put on some US currency? How about $100 bills. They should be worth two cents in a month or so.

Move aside
And let the man go through.

Now you’re an expert on foreign affairs and Middle East culture and politics?

Or just making sure we are all reminded that you lack the ability to read or research all the while claiming a PhD?

Alienating everyone in the Middle East is the last thing that will happen…

The Saudis, Qataris, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman are all desperately hoping that he will continue to harm and hinder Iran in every imaginable way…

They’ve actually been pretty public about that..

But… you’d know that if you rescinded yourself to facts rather than emotional outbursts..

As far as the rest of the world is concerned… he’s been pretty clear about that… he couldn’t care less…

How does that work for guy that want to transition to female? I am not aware of any tests that prove a guy is a virgin. I guess being addicted to video games might be a clue.;)
Early onset/carpel tunnel syndrome, maybe?

No freedom is being able to make this comment while sitting comfortably in your home, where as Iranian if they made a comment against their government, they run the risk of getting killed, tortured, raped, or have that happen to their family members.

I am pretty sure they would be willing to exchange a bridge or two, for the privileges and comforts you take for granted.

I'm sure they can't see the sense in it. If US has the capability to precisely hit military targets, and US has certainly demonstrated it can, then what's the point in taking out the bridges needed for civilian transport and electricity needed for everything civilians require for life? Goes way beyond collateral damage. Seems to lack military objective. And that's the way Iranians will see it. Punish the regime, not me.

Does the military use bridges to move mobile rocket launchers or move men to squash uprisings.

Do power plants support Iranian military communications, drone plants, lighting in the tunnels that hold ballast missiles.

If you think it through a bit before just parroting the latest “expert” you see on tv your posts might be better received.

If taking out bridges and the power grid is a war crime which many in the media seem to talk about then LBJ, Reagan, GHWB, Clinton, GWB, Obama are all culpable off the top of my head.

Logistic transportation arteries, for all those mobile military things and their logistics, have been a very high priority target in any air campaign ever waged. Power plants that support military command and control and military production are and have been equally legitimate targets. To be consistent, I assume you and your militarily astute ilk have been equally critical of Ukrainian attacks on Russian petroleum infrastructure?

You may have left out the biggest of all, the Transportation Plan leading up to D-Day, the allies hit every road, marshaling yard and railroad they could.

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
