As we all know, online courses are notorious for lacking credibility. It is often impossible to ascertain if the students are actually turning in their own work or somebody else doing it for them. I think the fact that Noem attempted degree programs at various other schools, failed to complete them, and only received her diploma online kinda speaks for itself. Prospective employers rarely give much credence to online degrees listed on resumes. There are good reasons. Personally, I think I would be more inclined to hire someone with just a high school diploma.
Sorry OH, you are misinformed and way behind the times by 20 years. I completed my degree in Criminal Justice Management online from an accredited university 20 years ago back when I was a LE officer. Virtually every accredited university in the U.S. offers online degree programs now.
While I’m not a big fan of Starbucks, about 10 years ago my wife worked there part time, 20 hours a week because they offered free tuition for a degree at Arizona State University, where she obtained her B.S. in Health Sciences with a Minor in Healthy Lifestyle Coaching. She watched livestream interactive lectures from her professors, no different than sitting in a lecture hall, she could participle and ask questions.
During tests, she had to sequester herself in a quiet room at home, turn the camera on her laptop so she could be monitored, no distractions or interruptions or the professor may fail you. She did ask my assistant once when she was sent a preserved fetal pig for her anatomy class and asked that I help her remove the various organs! Her experience was every bit as challenging as if she were physically there and in many ways not much different. She had to join in on student group sessions and interact with other classmates.
I kind of miss those days, just for working part time at Starbucks, she got full medical, matching 401(k), 5 lbs of coffee a week, could be regular coffee, Kuerig K cups, etc, plus she was always bringing me breakfast sandwiches and other sandwiches that would otherwise have to be discarded at the end of the day and more importantly it saved us 60k in tuition which is what her degree what have cost. She did fly to Arizona for her graduation too, graduating Summa cum laude.
I won’t say she enjoyed working with a bunch of 18-20 year olds, who by the way, seemed like very few took advantage of this excellent degree program that Starbucks still offers. So she went on to a wonderful career at the regional hospital when we lived in Montana, then when we relocated to Oklahoma, I only jokingly mentioned applying for the local Starbucks as a manager and she almost hit me!
