Outfitters & PH's have you ever been burned?

Hi All

Well i must say, Mr Bardwell did send me a $250 payment a week or so ago over paypal saying he is trying something new! Maybe this is a payment to show he intends to pay??
I emailed him back saying thank you for the payment and confirming that i recieved it! I have not heard from him since. Who know maybe this thread has done what it was intended for???

Lets see if he pays up the rest? Will keep you posted!!

Any more Cheques or paypal emails?

That truly sucks. As you say, lesson learned.

I will say I have been screwed by outfitters, some on this site.

Honestly, If you have a complaint about an Outfitter, please start your own thread on the subject.

I want to hear about anyone's legitimate concerns, so others can learn from it.

I have sent you a PM and offered assistance.

Yup, and I bet there are a few taxidermists in Africa who could join in the thread quite readily.
Needed some skulls for my local school biology department and saw the taxidermist list of what was available .....and that was from the previous year only ......so got him some money back and indeed helped out my local school

BRICBURN is it any more of a hijack to talk about a outfitter than it is to talk about taxidermist's joining in?

I have been burnt by agents, outfitters, clients, in nearly 20 years of hunting I have maybe taken 5 deposits before a hunt, I still have faith in fellow hunters. The OP was taken and always sad, not easy to name and shame.

No.
Sadly I was in the hospital visiting a sick friend and was not online. When I get near the big machine, I'll see who I can ban. :)
Second thought, there are much bigger issues in my life today.

Hope your friend recovers soon!

This thread was that it is actually a reverse thread, in a sense. A warning to Businesses.
Businesses that got burned by clients.
Outfitters, Taxidermists, etc.

Th post of concern is the opposite. A Hi-jack.

I will say I have been screwed by outfitters, some on this site.

On top of the hi-jack:
This post slams ALL Outfitters on this site, without any support.
Not one, "some", plural.
So, we are left to conclude that AH has a host of crooked Outfitters?

TROLL BEHAVIOUR

I encourage hunters to start their own thread on an Outfitter experience in "Hunting Reports" The Good and the bad experiences.

The name of the post says it all, PHs and outfitters. I don't see other businesses included, just my take. There are many businesses that could get burned by crooked hunters.

I get it.
It's just fudge factor on my part.

It's funny, I don't book a safari or hunting trip unless I have the cash. If I don't have the cash, I ask do they take credit card. This way God forbid something comes up and I am not able to save the difference I have a safety net with the credit card. This is why I start researching and planning two or three years ahead, I know my cash flow and know what I should be able to save. But until I'm 80% to 90% there I'm not booking.

I usually pay my day rates and trophy fee for target species up front. Extras shot will be on the credit card or I have a someone standing by to wire the money on the last night. I want my bills paid before I leave a country. I have only gone to Africa twice but booked with guys I trusted.

I think you are much more likely to get a shitty hunt in the US then in Africa, it can be hard to vet some outfits in the USA and make sure everything is in the up and up. I'm sure US outfitters get burned all the time too by shitty broke clients but it is ashame that we have to worry about this on both sides.

On my last hunt, I brought some money and a credit card.

At payment time, I told the outfitter to use the card to cover the balance, to which he replied, if I take the card, I will have to add the transaction cost, so why don´t you just pay the balance when you get home :)

It also helps that he has a bank account in Spain, so making that payment has no cost for me.

I normally wire transfer the total price of my hunt and a little more before I leave. Last year I took my boys over to Namibia on a alacarte so I sent the day fee and $12000 extra. The boys burned through that pretty fast. The outfitter was one I had used before, he didn't even give me a final bill, but emailed me one three weeks after I got home. I paid it the next day. Having run a company in industries that pay 90-120 after billed I know the cost of doing business and hate owning anyone. In this situation there was trust on both sides and things where done as should be.
