Good day AH community,

After two years of being sold out before we even get to the marketing season, we’re once again making this Buffalo hunt available to the public. It’s a solid opportunity for anyone who wants to hunt mature Dugga Bulls in a proper, wild setting.

This will be our fifth consecutive season on the reserve. Over the years, we’ve seen steady improvement in both Buffalo numbers and the age structure of the herds. Careful quota management has made a noticeable difference, and it’s encouraging to see more old bulls and cows each season.

The hunt takes place on a 44,500-acre reserve made up of rolling hills, sand veld, open flats, and mountainous country. It’s a diverse area that makes for challenging and rewarding tracking. We hunt the way it should be done - on foot, following fresh tracks from the previous day. You can expect long days in the field, checking roads and waterholes, and covering plenty of ground. A high level of fitness is important, as 10–15 km a day on foot over uneven ground is common.

We hunt without size restrictions and focus on age and character. Most bulls taken here measure between 34" and 40", with thick, worn bosses and plenty of history behind them. Every Buffalo hunted here is earned the hard way. The Buffalo on this property carry the original Addo genetics, with a small Kruger introduction many years ago. They’ve remained wild and unmanaged since their release. Because of that, horn width isn’t as wide as on some other Buffalo populations, but these are true, self-sustaining animals that provide a genuine hunting experience. Pricing reflects that difference in genetics, not the quality of the hunt.

This is a fair-chase hunt. There are no shortcuts or guarantees, and success depends entirely on effort, conditions, and a bit of luck - just the way it should be. The meat from the Buffalo hunted goes to the local community bordering the reserve, and this partnership helps support both conservation and the people who live alongside the wildlife. Extra hunters or friends are welcome to join, and we can include additional game if requested. Our 2025 season produced some excellent hunts and solid old bulls, and we’re looking forward to continuing the same approach next year.

This reserve remains one of the most rewarding places we’ve hunted for old Buffalo. It’s demanding, but the experience - tracking, working as a team, and spending full days in this kind of country - is what makes it worthwhile. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity - it’s one of those hidden gems that only comes around once in a while.

The hunt has to take place between the 1st of May and the end of Sept.

Please note the following with regards to the hunt:
*Accommodation is offsite. The drive in is 30 minutes exactly. The lodge is beautiful and does have WIFI. Days are spent on the reserve.
*The cellular signal is very poor on the reserve. It improves when hiking in the hills.
*This is a rifle hunt, no bow hunters unfortunately.
*You need to be fit for this hunt. If you cannot pack out an elk (not all at once of course!) we would not suggest doing this hunt.

SOMEBODY NEEDS TO TELL THAT GUY IN THE LAST PHOTO YOU CAN'T HUNT DG WITH A LEVERGUN!

Is "the Reserve" part of what some call the open system adjacent to the Kruger area? Sounds like a wonderful, large parcel of land, is it fenced or open, if fenced, low or high? Just trying to get an idea of the nature of the property hunted.

Thank you,
Will

Good day @wildalaska,

It is not part of the open system of Kruger. This is an independent high fenced government reserve, however as a result of it being run governmentally there is very little management meaning that the animals are left to their own devices. Hence you never know what you may find on this reserve!

Kind regards,
Dempsey Bayly & Michael Sippel

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
