Well I've booked my first African hunt and will leave in 3 months. I'd like to thank everyone here for your help, suggestions and encouragement. Still not sure if I will bring my guns or rent (I hate Canadian paperwork). I booked through EAI Outdoors. Being my first time I felt more secure booking through a BBB A+ business in North America. I must say Ed at EAI has answered my many questions promptly and encouraged me to keep asking. He mailed me a DVD prior to me booking that was highly informative, even going into detail about snakes and insects. I must say Ed should update the DVD as the video quality is dated. The two worst things now are 1. the wait. 2. the 15 hr flight.

What outfitter are you hunting with? Brian

Good luck!

Looking forward to the hunt report.

Enjoy the anticiapation and doing all of the little details of planning. The time will be here before you know it! I told my cousin I would go to Zim with him in Nov 11, fora trip in Aug 14. It seemed like such a pipe dream when I said OK, and yet the time is almost here!!! :)

Congratulations! Have a great time in Africa.

Wish you the best of luck Icq !

Good luck on the last part Icq! I can just imagine the excitement coming with all the thoughts and nights of dreams about your African safari.

Looking forward to the hunt report!

Cheerio,

Plenty of time to practice shooting off sticks.

good luck to you. Im sure you will have a great time.

Thanks guys. My shooting has been pretty curtailed lately with all the snow, wind and -25-30 temperatures. I have to get moving and practice off the sticks

I can say that I didn't take a gun and it was one of the best decisions that I made. We all practice our "safari" story in our head before we ever get to Africa. If your story includes a description of your personal gun complete with handloaded this and X gains of that, then take your gun because it is an important part of how you think about hunting. If not, your PHs gun will work just as well as your gun with WAY less headache. As a special bonus, the "hired" gun may have a suppressor which is worth the price of the hire just to shoot. I hate shooting my gun, I loved shooting with the suppressor!!!!

Yea isn't it strange that the countries with some of the most oppressive gun laws (England) encourage you tu be a good neighbor and use a moderator

I just got back from the Karoo and Eastern Cape. It was an amazing time and aside from the great overall experience produced three excellent trophy animals in just four days.

Enjoy.

I am really surprised that we haven't been able to make inroads in the US ... simply from a hearing protection standpoint AND the good neighbor arguments. I guess there are too many Hollywood depictions of "silencers" being used by the bad guys in the movies.

you nailed it. Hollywood myths like bullets in a fire shooting people persist to this day and are taken as gospel

Actually it's a growing market in the US. The biggest problem now is that the average wait for a license is 6-9 months and there's a ban on importing them.

They are legal for hunting in more and more states though.

We're actually going to start production on a couple of new models based on designs I looked at and experimented with on the trip.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
